Title: rear tire wobble
Post by: Skim on July 12, 2004, 06:44:47 AM
Forgive me if this is an obvious or stupid question (I'm a newbie).  I was travelling the freeway yesterday and all of a sudden I could feel my rear tire really wobble out of control.

This was at a little over 160km/hr (i think the conversion would make that 100miles).  so i let off the throttle, gained control and everything seemed fine again.  But just out of curiousity, does anyone know the cause of this?  was it something with my bike, riding...or even the wind?  and if this ever happens again, what should I do or not do?

Thanks

You might need to put more air pressure in it. Or maybe you need a new tire.

Thanks, I'll check the tires again when I get home (i'm pretty sure the tires are ok).  What happens if the air pressure is fine? is there anything else i should check?

If tire pressure is fine, then you might just need a new tire.

Try to adjust your shock, go one more to the stiff side.

make sure your axle is aligned correctly and Tight, if alittle loose, the axle will walk back and forth, bending the chain adjuster plates, i had this happen and beefed up the plates with angle iron, they wont bend on a GSXR now

Another thing is...how "extreme" was the shake? A GS is going to get wobbly at 100 mph. Our bikes weren't simply made to cruise at that speed. It might just be an unavoidable sideaffect.

I thought this was the reason, but wanted to ask to make sure.  It felt as if the wind was tugging the rear tire left and right.  (it wasn't a good feeling).

never had so much as a twitch above 40 mph on my gs, 100mph is smooth and ne'er a worry on yolkin the bars around.  i dont even ballence my wheels with tire changes.   40 ish and below, i might get little tiny shakes if i let my hands off the bars. putting a finger on one bar stops it. no i dont have a stabilizer.
