Title: Mirror extenders/extensions..do they exists?
Post by: seamax on July 12, 2004, 10:41:50 PM
I looking for two metal stems that are 6 inches long each and is 90 degree bent in the middle with the ends threaded to accomodate a 10 mm nut.

I'm remounting my mirrors on a different location and need these stems extend and mount the mirrors correctly.

Does anyone know if they make such a thing or can I find something that would work down at the local hardware store?

i know triumph makes extenders for their mirrors, but they're just straight, not 90degree bent, so i'm not sure if anyone makes anything like that, but yeah, i'm sure you could come up with something at the hardware store

Do you know where I can get these extenders? If they are already threaded than all I have to do is bend them. If I get something at the hardware store I would likely have to bend them and get a tool to thread the ends.

Not sure, but I bet any OEM part like that would be chromed.  Bending it 90 degrees will probably wreak havoc on the nice surface.

I was in Checker this morning picking up the  4 Fram filters I ordered.  While I waited for the line to clear out, I wandered around and looked at tools.  I spotted a metric die (not tap) set for something like $7.  Add a $3 bottle of propane, a $10-15 torch fitting, a $5 length of steel bar and possibly a $5 hacksaw, and you're looking at a pair of extenders for $35 on the outside.

OK, you would probably want to paint them, and you would probably need a vise to do the threading and bending, but I figured you probably had some of this stuff (or could borrow it), and any tools you need to buy you get to KEEP.  :thumb:

Just a thought....  :dunno:

Come on, davipu (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1393)!  Surely you could use a quick $25?

I know you could make something like this easy.  Do you mind if I post the pics you sent me of your DIY luggage racks, as samples of your metal bending skills?  (The pics are at home, so I won't be able to post them until tonight ... unless you resend them.)

so your saying i'm poor Kerry?  so poor that I need every 25 bucks that comes along?      well yeah I am, this military stuff dosen't pay for crap. so everyone listen up I vote that we eliminate taxes for all active duty military,  and everyone else has about a 5% tax rate increase that will go directly into a pay raise for enlisted military.  who's with me? come on everyone lets write our congress peoples and get this passed NOW.

no takers?   ok I'll make the extendeers.   sent ya a pm.

Oooohh wait, I just thought of something.  Are Kawasaki threads the same as Suzuki ones?

A guy on one of my other forums makes extenders for all our Kawi's, out of billet aluminum, powder coated.  They run about 40 bucks, and they might fit your bikes.

They measure just a couple of inches offset, but what a difference it makes.  All I ask for is just a couple more inches!

They make some other models also, so have a gander and see if there's any you think'll work better.

Those kawasaki ones would not work for me, I need more that a couple inches offset. I need a custom job.

Davipu thanks for the reply. I just sent you and PM and will send you a pic of exactly what I want. Also I rather someone one this board, a GS500 owners, get the money.

Thanks.
