riding position!
i know that most of us sit differently, especially those that changed out their bars (or tails for that matter). i just want to know what a "generally proper" position is that is somewhere between "aggressive" and "dude on a scooter"
because whatever i do, either my arms (especially elbows, wrists and hands) hurt from supporting my weight all the time, or my back starts hurting after 30 minutes or riding...
That's the story of my life, even with my GenMar bar risers. Of course, I've had some "built-in" back problems ever since I hit that cow.
(No, I won't drag it all out again. Look HERE (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=58505#58505) for the relevant results.)
The cow...the COW!! Not again!!
I have positioned my bars down as low as possible so I can turn full left or right and not rub the tank.
I also usually have a tank bag. SO I lean a little forward and can plop down onto the tankbag if I get lazy or have a LONG way to go. I'll usually put my feet on the back pegs as well.
There isn't really a right/wrong way to sit...(unless it's facing backwards 8) ) as long as it works for you.
"Pizzle makes fun of Kerry!"
Just wait till you hit YOUR first cow, pizzle. See how many times YOU feel like telling the story.
PS - It's not worth it. Don't hit a cow on my account, K? Rachel would never forgive either of us!
You must hate Gateway computers Kerry...
Cool.
Srinath.
OK, I'll bite.
Huh?
their boxes look like cows. kinda. in color pattern only (the boxes don't have heads and tails)
Gotcha! I'm a little slow today ... just like the message board!
get some clip-ons and put your feet on the passenger pegs and your chin on the filler cap....that'll make you go faster plus you look like a champ :thumb:

What do you mean slow? Maybe that accident did cause a head injury ;) Maybe you're slow and projecting that slowness on other things.

heh, to get my chin on the cap, i'd have to have my ass hanging off the tail
actually I do something very similiar to what johncam describes. On our first gen GS's the seat is very thin and skinny and I always seem to slide forward...and it gets uncomfortable in the nether regions..quick. So on longer rides I end up sittin on the passenger seat but keep my feet on the front footpegs (yeah I'm a pretty tall guy). I'm sure most will say this is not correct but hey its comfortable. [/i]
I have SM bars and Woodcraft CFM rearsets, so I lean pretty far forward, but it is drastically more comfortable for me than the stock set up. I ride with the toe portion of my foot on the pegs since with the Woodcrafts it actually feels like you have a solid connection with the bike. The SM's are great, and really help the feel and control of the bike. Tucking in can now be achieved. This set up took a little getting used to, but at 6' 2" the extra stretch is welcome.

On long rides I switch between sitting really close to the tank to give my arms a rest, to sitting way back on the seat to give my rear end a rest. I find that the key to giving my arms a rest is concentrating on supporting my weight with my abs and legs. Even with Srinaths bars on my bike I can support my upper body weight enough i can let go of the bars and not fall on my face.
Personnally I've found that the limiting factor for my GS is the seat, my arse gives out before my wrists and shoulders. Or maybe its just my severe case of noassitosis. :dunno:
when i took my trip in may, bout 150 miles, i developed a rather harsh case of leadbuttitis i occasionally stood on the pegs :nono: highly dangerous, but it worked, coulnt do too often cause was cruising at 95ish (speedo), would occasionally stick leg out, (cramps, )but had no probs with hand cramps though :dunno:
