Hello all, today I'm noticing a funny noise on my 93 (actually 2 separate)First when I'm coming to a stop my front brake handle is "buzzing" a little. Second, also coming to a stop I hear a "dragging sound from the left, then when I step down from 3rd, to 2nd, to 1st I hear a "cu-clank" when it goes past neutral into first. I kind of wince when I hear the cu-clank cause it sounds like the shifter needs to be "oiled" or something. Any ideas? :dunno:
does the "cu-clank" sound almost like the gears aren't meshing? I have a similiar noise downshifting from 2nd to 1st. It seems I get lazy and don't let the shifter come up the whole way...or at least I think thats what it is. :dunno:
Next time you are shifting pay closer attention to your movements in the left hand and left foot. Analyze each move and see if it still makes the noise. Personally, I find I take my shifting for granted and try to cut corners (let clutch out too soon, don't let shifter come back up, etc.) and this leads to odd noises in the tranny. Just an idea I'm throwin out there.

Good question. I think that you're on to something there. It does kind of sound like the gears aren't meshing. Can this happen if you have the clutch all the way in, and are still going too fast when you shift from 2nd to 1st? Like in a car, there's a "moderator" or something in the tranny that won't let you downshift from 2nd to 1st until you've gone below a certain speed.
Also, check your clutch cable slack, tighten it up if necessary.
katfan...I think that its possible there is some kind of limiter. I went to a local shop cuz mine sounds really bad and thats the first thing he asked. I know motorcycle trannies don't have synchros like a car so they use dogs to move the gears. (correct me if I'm wrong trannys are still a bit of a mystery to me). The guy at the shop told me to try letting the clutch out a lil and it should slip in. This doesn't make sense to me but who am I?
