My new fender and fairings arrived today, I had them shipped to my office. I opened the box right away, and took the parts out to inspect them. When I was holding the fender and turning it around, my coworker Catherine asked what it was, and before I could answer my other coworker Paul grabbed it and said "It's a hat, can't you see?" He proceeded to put it on...
And then said "Catherine didn't you know Meighan is in the new Aliens movie, this is part of her costume".

Hey John... canadian humor... try to get someone to send you a couple seasons of "Royal canadian air farce". You'll die laughing. 99-2004 I also want to see, so after you get it... pass it on to me...
Cool.

our neghbors to the North are responsible for many of "our" most famous comedians.
Rick Moranis

Phil Hartman (R.I.P.)
Rich Little
Catherine O'Hara
Dave Foley

Howie Mandel
Sadly, they also harbor deserters from our military, but on balance between that and the beer+comedians+Pam Anderson, I'd say it's at least a push...well, maybe Pam titls it in Canada's favor.
Been to Newfoundland, lottsa trees.
Hey John, how do you feel about New Zeeland humour, the Prime Minister of NZ was recently asked what he thought of a scheme started by the regional govt of South Australia to attract brits, specifically Londoners to emigrate to S.A. The guy said it was a good thing as it would raise the average I.Q. in both places.
Wallabies, don't have a go at me, it was the Kiwi what said it.

Off topic a little... was watching Monster Garage tonight and one of the builders was from northern Canada. There's a part where he says "I could really go for some back bacon and Tom Whorton's coffee.... you have no idea what I just said"
He would be correct, what the *&^% is back bacon????
70 Camguy,
Back bacon, In UK and I think Canada, OZ, and NZ we tend to consume copies quantities of bacon, English breakfast, Eggs, bacon, this that and the other, whereas in Hotels around the world American Breakfast means pretty much the same with ham instead of bacon. bacon being thin cuts of cured pork often smoked, usually served fried or grilled. It normally comes in three cuts, "STREAKY" from the cut we call belly pork whith is cheapest and fattiest (and I think best tasting) BACK which is from the fillet, leanest and most commonly used in UK, and COLLAR which is self explanitary and somewhere between the other two. Best sandwich on the planet Bacon and Egg scalding hot and dripping all over the place!
Any other culinary delights I can help you with, trust me I'm a cook.

Actually what do I miss the most about canada? POUTINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it wasn't for the fact that I was spoiled by growing up in Arizona, and really can't stand super cold weather I'd try to immigrate to Canada in a heartbeat.

victoria is indeed very british, here in my neck of the woods we are a majority irish catholic aka brit haters :) joke. as for canadians sounding like americans i have was at the planet hollywood on cedar avenue in san diego. i asked the clerk if i could "see the leather jacket up there" and he said "canadian huh"
so i think there is a bit of a difference
There is a difference, but it is a lot more pronounced in some than in others. Some canadians, like some southerners, have an accent ALL the time, some it comes and goes, some you'd never know they're canadian until they say Eh? or Abuut(about, not a typo). Some people have it more, some hardly have it at all. Of course the closer to the US border you get, the more the line blurs. The only way most people can tell i'm southern usaully is when i say ya'll. Sometimes it comes out more, especially when i'm with other southerners, but mostly, you can't tell. Most Canadians are probably the same. you don't know till you hear that EH? on the end.
i hate it when i say eh but i say eh a lot. as for about in "Canadian" it is "a

OK, I've been lurking lately, but this is a veteran Canuck watcher's take:-
Canadians are way too polite to say their country is bigger than their Southern neighbours'. Less violent, less populated, more socially concerned, set more land aside for parks than almost anywhere (whatever the Sierra Club may say), export more weed, are integrated, more wanting to be accepted, less aggravating, less visibly patriotic, elect leaders with bad or no hair, are less stridently religious, tolerant of others' religions, more knowlegable about their neighbours, less phobic, give more per capita to world peace, have fewer gun related deaths per capita (but then, so do all other stable civilised countries), have better beer, drive more small cars, have fewer Harleys, are not quite as fat and finally, do not take themselves so seriously.
Other than these few peccadillos, Canadians are much like y'all, eh?

The metric system is infinitely more sensible than standard. What's so standard about a 12:1 ratio of inches to feet, but a 5280:1 ratio of feet to miles? Don't even get me started on standard wrenches...
And Red Green is the man!
And, no, I'm not Canadian, I'm American. Not my fault, either...

90% of this is wrong/false and total BS, the rest is generalisation and lack of reason to do it ... Less violent... Not on average per capita... Less populated... that's cos well no one in their right mind will live there, those that can get out do, and for god's sake... there is a lot of empty space... do 99% have to live in toronto and other cities, Land for parks... like anyhitng better can be done wiht that land anyway... export more weed... I doubt it... just that we have so many weed consumers that we'll buy from everywhere, are integrated, more wanting to be accepted, less aggravating... not even close... but immigration policy (what policy... its a damn open door) is very very loose making for family unification to be easier than US... and aggravating... tell them canada sucks, or hockey sucks or toronto sucks... or the weather sicks or traffic sucks or similar... and you'll see how aggravated they get... US is the first place you can complain about the state of affairs and people will agree... if logical and you dotn make it sound like its their fault... BTW in canada smoking is allowed everywhere ... yes it was banned in bars and resturaunts... back in 1998, but they still smoke there... less visibly patriotic - LIke there is anyhting to be patriotic about... ooo ooo Ben Johnson... should be enough reason to be patriotic... (OK Back in 1998 it was a huge sore point for the people that were saying they have somehitng to be patriotic about...) elect leaders with bad or no hair - apparently it also extends to communication skills, language skills, administrative skills, and so on... are less stridently religious, tolerant of others' religions - This is a load of crap... more hindu temples in US and even in the 9/11 aftermath... the temples were not attacked in even the redneck towns... more knowlegable about their neighbours, less phobic - of course... without the neighbors help you'd be a bunch of french speaking un employed hicks... give more per capita to world peace - where did you get this info from... have fewer gun related deaths per capita - arent guns banned in Canada... there is a fine line between fewer deaths and freedom of carrying a firearm ... wihout opening up a whole new debate, fewer gun related deaths... but have you added knife related deaths, and hockey stick deaths and broom stick deaths... cos in the absense of guns people will kill each other with those ... have better beer - You do know I can buy Canadian beer at my local store... so what better beer are you talking about that's not in US... drive more small cars, have fewer Harleys - OK here is a news flash... In India and China and other third world countries also there are smaller cars and no harleys... does that make it better than US or canada... Not really... its because bigger and better cars and more pricey motorcycles are generally not seen much in the third world countries like India, Canada and China... are not quite as fat - and India and china are also full of very thin people who are nearly starving to death...- Refer back to third world remark, and finally, do not take themselves so seriously - OK lets see how serious the rebuttal to this post is...
Having said that...
Canada - Love the 407 and the fact that they cant charge out of country plates... the fact that cops generally prefer to stay off it cos it makes money for the state in many different ways, and the fact that weekend's are more $$$ per mile, making it empty ... and a perfect place to test the bikes top speed  , Ditto on the red green... and add to that... Royal canadian air farce... incredible... and Kids in the hall...

as for population the usa has 29.4 person per km and canada 3.1
apparently that has nothing to do with the weather since australia has only 2.9 per km.

Its higher, but since there are a lot fewer guns in canada shouldn't it be a lot less... also you have 1/10 the population density, and that translates to 1/10 the opportunity for violent crime... and yet its only 1/4th...

Somehting is wrong in this... Toronto has a population of 1.5 million... Charlotte NC has ~1.8 million at latest count... and this damn place is deserted compared to TO. Funky math...

OK more of the facetious reasoning... The immigration policy is not an open door... I know I said open door... but read between the lines... you have open door immigration letting in people as quickly as the paperwork will let them ... but The population of canada always is dropping... It was 29 million back in 98/99 when I was there... now its 26... or you just not using exact numbers... ergo.... anyone that can get out does... Wayne Gretzky for example, I didn't even know he was canadian... and in 1998 they retired his jersey and made a huge deal... and I go... he's canadian... really...

I am getitng it from being there... in 1999 they had the ban in place, but there was no enforcement, and that was bars and resturaunts only, coffee shops and other places didn't even have a ban... and that was onlt Toronto city... outside the city limits... there was no semblence of anyhitng being prohibited anywhere. Sppech impediment is not it... its part of it... Jean Chretien in addition to the speech impediment is also a very poor communicator, Jacque Parizau is a self aggrandaising egomainac, Lucien Bouchard is all of the above... and as for assasinations... Its canada ... who cares, and how does it affect the world... To really piss off people you have to be powerful and make significant changes... Say you turn Immigration open door policy into a very very selective open door policy, and the door for people leaving is shut un ceremoniously... You'd want to do that so people will start to work and improve Canada and you cant bring in the sick, the infirm and the huddled masses from every third world rat hole... lets see who gets pissed off and wants to kill whom.... Lived in Toronto Ontario for 14 months Aug 1998 to Oct 1999... experience and talking to people... both in a group and on a 1 to 1 basis, and the fact that a brother lives in canada from Dec 2001 are teh basis of my point of view...
All the things that are good about canada are all due to lack of choice... If immigration was not an open door... population of canada would be 300, and many canadians that do have a choice decide to leave almost immediately as the opportunity presents itself... all the bad things about canada are the result of a people that dont stand up and say this is wrong, because they are all going to be leaving soon or because they dont have any other choice... Canada is widely regarded by the US as an extension (yes you may say you dont want it... but politically you are an individual... not the goverenment) and hence can get by on a shoe string military, and being surrounded by water for 1000's of miles there is no credible threat... Honestly canada is not friendly at all at the person to person level... Its multi racial... of course due to "open door" and hence there is a lot of points of view... disagree with someone... and it is very hostile... I in all honesty got along better with americans (white, black or other) in the US than I did with Indians in canada. I get along great with Indians in US... Once canadians or canadian Indians learned my point of view about canada and much of my opinion was just being formed at that time really, so I never was this opinionated about it then... it was an instant reject... I have no disagreements when I walk down the street and say dammit the taxes in this place are ridiculous... IN canada where it was far higher... instantly people say but you get so much for the taxes, the roads the electricity, the health benifit --- BS ... since so many people like everyhting about the country... there is no push to improve... of course they are going to improve... by driving across the border as soon as they can... canada is the world biggest waiting room...

4 times the murder rate is still staggering. But I am still all for rights to bear arms. The creators of our constitution wanted people to keep arms as a hedge against the central government if they ever got out of control. Sadly, government has found ways to curb gun ownership which defeats the whole purpose of the constitution. In Massachusetts I has to go through hoops to get the permits to legaly carry -and only got them because I knew the chief of police.
I still own guns, I will continue to own guns, I will protect myself with a gun of necessary. Lets hope I never have to use it in anger.
As far as Canada and gun ownership... It's their country, they can do what they want.
john i am not big on your constitution but i don't think it was the creators of the constitution on the right to bear arms or arm bears (joke) it was the first or second amendment and it was in response to a threat from britain leading up to the war of 1812. but i will admit i am sketchy on this one so i may be wrong

OK Toronto is not canada and they believe they are the center of the world and they are total assholes... OK OK I am adding that part... OK I will totally buy that... given the snobbish reaction I have seen in clubs ... where I have seen local bands work their butt off (starting at 2 in the afternoon on tuesday no less) and they dont get done till 2 at night and after that they have to dis connect everything, load up the van and go home and un load it, atleast 2-3 hours work ... and most of them have day jobs they need to be at the next day... I know cos my cow-orker was one of them... and the lazy people that come by to see them dont even put their drinks down to clap for a few seconds after a good set or 2 ... and if you do... they look at you like you fell off the boat ... Comedy clubs... same thing... OK so they are jerks... I'll take that..
Cool.

I have seen a very european side of Toronto too... and I did not like what I saw... there is this whole "I am better than you, and if I can live here and I am not saying this is bad... what right do you have to complain" ... and from the accent try to ask where they are from... and the response is usually somehting like "I am from this world ... and what hole have you crawled out of... " ... pathetic ... They react badly to criticism... even the most constructive and what you'd think would be universally accepted ... and you'd get people that support it... as simple as high taxes... canada cannot be like toronto... I have met too many nice people... and none in TO.

I don't think firearms are banned in Canada. They must be registered, like here in the US.
Yeah, they just have to be registered.
There's no gun registration in the USA. Just a background check. And registered guns are just as deadly as unregistered.:guns:
Canadian registration has been described as a 2 billion dollar boondoggle with massive noncompliance and an estimated 100 million dollar annual administration cost. Can we say heavy duty licensing fees?:nono: Tax them out of existence.
QuoteAnnual gun related death averages:
Japan: 39
Australia: 65
England: 68
Canada: 165
France: 255
Germany: 381
U.S.A.: 11127
Btw, what was with the attack seshadri_srinath? You might want to do a little more homework before backing up some of those claims.
Ahem, you cut and pasted these statistics from
Bowling For Columbine. Not a credible source for homework.:P
Those stats aren't even
gun related deaths they are gun related
homicides. Except Michael Moore inflated the USA figure by including justifiable homicides and law enforcement killin's. Whatever, still too many, although, that figure has been steadily shrinking since the 1990's. Without gun registration. :thumb:
gisser all my states were from stats can and federal government web site.
only the blind do not see that you guys are shooting yourselves out of existance.
i alway hear, "i need a gun for protection" Protection from what? why is all that $ spent on police and military? another distinction the usa has is the #1 death penalty country in the world :nono:
oops as for the canadian gun regestry...yup pleanty of growing pains there...i quess it was not thought out. as for non compliance that is only what the gun lobby want you to believe

Yea... and what's wrong with that... dont blame the guns dammit... if not for guns people will be killing each other with baseball bats or broom sticks or tooth picks... Yea I know it gets messy... Oh BTW the lack of gun laws simply double the chances of death... one guy shoots and that contributes to 1/2... but in the US we have the other guy shooting back... so right there our numbers are allowed to be double... Take the guns away and our rate will drop... probably... but boy will it be messy... those tooth pick deaths... no picnic to look at.
Cool.
Srinath.
tooth pic deaths NOW THAT IF FUNNY
in canada the #1 murder weapon is beaver tails :o
we have guns in canada, the military has two or three, but they can't remember where they put the ammo
My point is...
Put people together in a room and some people will want to kill others.... and some other will want to be killed by others... The factors that pretty much control it and how many people in what size room ... I'll be if you took 1000 canadians and dropped them in a 10 by 10 room... the murder rate with or wihtout guns will skyrocket... since there are more people in the room by definition in US... there are more murders... how is that for rough human psychology... so why are Indians not killing each other in proportion being the most tightly populated place in the world... I dunno ... I wanted to kill people when I was there but somehow I didn't... so There you have it... They are too lazy to. So its a function of how lazy they are also... so more people in the room should be accompanied by a proportional surge in laziness... then its good. Now if they all had guns.... there be more deaths... cos killing wiht a gun you can be lazy... but then if everyone had a gun... Back to square one... unless you were homicidal and suicidal... anyway screw that... US and Canada US has more people in the room... and hence there are more killings.
Cool.

one word, culture.
america has a culture of violence and weapons and unfortunately they have been exporting it.
Frankie, the death penalty assessment... The Death penalty claimed 65 lives in 2003, and only 39 so far this year. How can this even be mentioned when there have been dictators in the middle east killing by the 100's because they didn't agree on which type of islam was correct. At least we put murderers to death. These people aren't able to function in todays society without being a danger to said society. and why don't we hear about the amount of deaths by guns from countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, N. Ireland, Bosnia, South Africa, Columbia, Mexico, etc. Why? because that wouldn't make the USA look so bad now would it. I can't stand politics. It's all about how to twist and deliver the information in a way to best suit oneself.
P.S. I don't mind those little Canadian bastards, I think they're kind of cute... like a little puppy.

You know what I like about this site? It's how something as silly as 'look at my new fenders', can turn into a pissing contest over who's country is better. :) In my opinion, Canada is great....I live here, I will always live here, and I would encourage other people to live here. There are HUNDREDS of reasons to live here, and HUNDREDS of reasons to thank Canada/Canadians. HOWEVER, we aren't alone here [in the world I mean], and we certainly didn't create the world. I like the US....I've been there TONS of times, and I will continue to go again. Your beer sucks, and I can't understand how you guys drink it...but whatever...I'll just bring my own.
You Yankee's have to admit though, that in comparison to OUR country, YOURS is just a bit much. You have more murders in say, Washington in one year, then we have in like our whole country in like 5 years. :guns: Does this make us better? :dunno: Maybe. It makes us safer....I guess. Downtown Toronto at 4AM can be a scary place too...it's all about what you are comfortable with, right? So what if you guys can LEGALLY drink beer, while driving, and holding a shotgun [in Texas anyway]. Big deal eh? That doesn't scare me. Going outside when it's -50C scares me. So what if you guys wave the American flag 365 days a year...patriotism is wicked, and I love the 'America's #1' mentality. A country needs that. And for a lot of stuff it's true anyway. We only just got Krispy Kreme [sp.?] donuts up here...how behind the times is that? We don't even have Sonic, or Cracker Barrel....or Chili's... MMMM....baby back ribs...
I always get a kick out of what most Americans think of US people UP here. We don't ALL say EH all the time, and we don't all play hockey, drink Tim Horton's coffee, and wear toques, and drink beer. Sure, we do A LOT of that.....so what? In our spare time, we also let almost anyone into our country....we're just good people I guess. :) And what the hell is abuut? I say about....how do YOU say it? :P
Anyways, I've managed to even confuse my own self about what my exact point is, but I think it's just this: No matter where you live, or what you RIDE, or who you voted for, or what your beliefs are, or what your religion is, or what kind of stains you have in your underwear, or how many cows you've humped. We all have ONE thing in common. We all LOVE motorcycles, and no matter how much you all bicker about stupid crap like who's country is better...we'll all be FOREVER bound by the SWEET, HONORABLE, and EXCLUSIVE brotherhood [and sisterhood for you ladies out there] that is MOTORCYCLING. And for that, I love you all. :thumb:
P.S. Wars are created by people REFUSING to see/respect other peoples VIEWS/BELIEFS. I can say what I want...it's my right. You can say what you want...it's your right. It's also my/your right to be WRONG, and to look like a jackass for being/refusing to admiit being wrong. I'm sure you've all heard that little saying about what happens when you ASSuME stuff.... :bs:
P.P.S. Can I get a hug? I want to feel the love in here again.
P.P.P.S. I miss you guys. Can you make a section for guys that USED to own a GS?
this is not a pissing contest on which country is better, it is srinath and i having fun and chuckin shaZam! at each other.
Hey man J-lo... Love that point of view... and freaking hell I love Tim Horton's and even better Timothy's ... BTW That we do not get here, and we cannot run down to the 2 bit convenience store and buy it like we can with canadian beer... and bloody hell its tough... I have Timothy's withdrawl symptoms now just from you triggering that memory ... BTW About letting in anyone into the country... OK I can understand it for people... but did you have to let stoopid ass corporations like Starbucks in... BTW love Canadian tire as well... Funky name for a really good store, Starbucks is going to kill the Timothy's/Tim hortons just like it killed the mom and pop operations... Also funny is the point that It took so long to get to this point... When we start arguing we pretty much forget the important stuff... and people start defending everything... Lots of shaZam! about the US sucks ... BTW Beer... I like the watery beers more than the so called richer beer. I'd say only the stuff that isn't available in the other places widely can be said as salient points... otherwise... there'd be total chaos in teh argument... Bloody hell I think I should start a Timothy's franchaise in my front yard... and show people what good coffee tastes like.
Cool.

one word, culture.
america has a culture of violence and weapons and unfortunately they have been exporting it.
Maybe yes on the culture thing, there is also the fact that India did have some decent leaders that said a bunch of stuff (Gandhi, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Vivekananda and others) that has come to be now accepted as universal truth... yea yea non violence etc... and since they never used it for for personal gain... and they followed it... its now universal, and fairly recent in people's memory... so they tend to grow up that way... but see that is the exact opposite of what is in the US and to a larger extent in Canada... There is very little diversity in India... everyone is that way... Canada and US are waaay too diverse with canada being more diverse than the US...
However there is also one other side that applies to India... If there was a choice between a thief and a cop, I'd take sides with the theif... cops are far worse... atleast in the India I know. Crime statistics are totally murky because I have seen situations where after a robbery in the house if you called the cops, the cops show up and say you'd have to buy us drinks for looking at your crime scene ... which is $$$ in India... Call a fire station when the house is on fire and the fire engines show up and demand money ... like lots of money for spraying the fire down ... so house breakin's and robberies and general crimes all go un reported... cos the damn cops are worse. Of course the crime rate is very very low, if no one will report them. Crime ... especially property and minor personal crime... like conk you and the head and take your wallet, or threaten women and take their jewellry ... is very very common in India ... It even has a name..."Chain Snatching" ... not somehitng a GS chain does when it gets old...
Anyway... crime/violence exported from US... I doubt it... What US is exporting especially of late is huge disparities in income distribution... There is a glaring difference now, the India I grew up in was much better. What's worse the inflation rates are staggering... My Grandpa after having lived to 92 and worked nearly to 80 as an engineer no less, is now barely getting by... The first job I had in 1992 in India ... I made more money than he did in 6 months and I could buy far less ... Just sky rocketing costs and people being squeezed out of the market on everyhting ...
Cool.
