Hi.
I'm new here. Other than a mid 70 Yamaha XS750 that didn't last long, this is the first bike over 250cc that I've had. So far so fun. It's a 1990 GS500E, Red.
I like the upright ride better than the layed back crusier position. I'd like a fairing. Not a sport bike version that you have to lay on the tank to get any good from, but a real windshield. Where can I get one?
I also need storage. The perfect device would be a Gel seat for 1 with hard case storage, or rack to mount one, behind the saddle.
Yes it would look odd, but I'm thinking functionality here, not style.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Oh yeah, vital stats.
The GS had 13,400 on it when I got it. Paid $500. Had the fork seals changed immediately. Next are progressive springs, and a new rear shock assembly. Perhaps a smaller front sprocket to give me a little more low end. I don't like to bike on the highway.
It's a good ride.
Let me be the first to welcome you to our fantastic forum and congratulations on your GS500 :) :thumb:  Sounds like you got a really good deal on that GS. BTW, where are you from?
I've had my '96 GS for about a year now and it is my first bike. I love the freedom I feel when I ride on it. It's hard to explain.

Not to steal your thunder, Kerry, but I found an old post
(click here) where he links pictures of his full-size fairing that he bought from
Motorcycle Accessories Warehouse. I also bought my F-15 Touring Shield from them. Their windshield prices are hard to beat, but I remember having to wait up to two weeks before mine arrived.

I can't help on this, but I know Kerry and some other members have used hard luggage cases and luggage racks before.
Come on guys, where are you all hiding?
For years I used the National Cycle Plexi 2 type fairings on my bikes and used soft luggage. Here's a pic of my 97 GS with a Plexi 2, tank bag, saddlebags, and tail bag.

This year I put a Givi E33 Monolock hard bag on my 02 GS and mounted it on the Suzuki luggage rack. It held enough clothes for a full week and I also used a tankbag for the other stuff I took and no saddlebags. I'm sold on the hard trunk now as we got caught in very heavy thunderstorms numerous times on our trip south and not a drop leaked into the hardbag. Here's a pic of my 02 taken at the motel in Maggie Valley, NC.

That's a Slipstreamer Spitfire shield I was using for the past year or so and had began liking better than the larger Plexi 2 for summer riding. Got caught in too much heavy rain this year so far and I gave up on it and put a Plexi 2 back on the 02 GS. Will try the smaller Spitfire again next year if it quits raining by then. :x

Sorry I'm late. Check out
my Riderhaus page.
Unfortunately, Riderhaus does not
currently offer
Five Stars products (see the announcement on their main page).
You may be able to find a
Givi setup for the GS500 somewhere, somehow. If you do, LET ME KNOW! Perhaps
Steve-C can help? (See the
racks for this bike thread.)
Hi charleym3, welcome. I use a givi box very like GSJack, can't fault it. To supplement it on occasions I use a magnetic tank bag. Also large windscreen, mine is a Turbo Slipstreamer, very like Kerry's National Cycle one, I think probably the Turbo is a bit cheaper, (it is in Europe) a couple of us have them, (possibly REMA1000 from memory) if you use search there is a picture on an old thread and loads of stuff about various screens.
Now I understand why the wind screen that I have didn't last. The bike came with what looks like a NC Plexi-2 tinted. I was trying to install it yesterday and, unfortunately, the lower mounting bar seperated from the windshield. I think that I can bond it back together though and mount it correctly, now that I see how it's supposed to go on.
I also got a tank bag with the bike. It isn't very large, but should be adaquite for small loads.
Is there another source in the states for FiveStars products?

The only place I've found is
Adventure Motorcycle Gear, but the only
Five Stars stuff they seem to offer is the engine guards. (Click on the
Crashbars link on the left.)
I haven't done any extensive searching for
Five Stars stuff for a good while now - I'll have to put that on my "To Do" list....
Oh, I DID want to confirm the
Givi-compatibility of the
Five Stars racks. My Dad dropped in yesterday, on his way home from Alaska, and we were able to clip his 52-liter
Givi Monokey bag onto my
Five Stars rack just like
that. (I have
Kappa hard bags, which were pitched to me as being
Givi-compatible. This was the first chance I've had to gather supporting evidence.)
