so my mess of a situation has gotten me to the point of almost being willing to have a dealer sort my bike out.
it started with a leaky head gasket. i replaced that, and then i needed to adjust my carbs. it took many adjustments (and they're still not perfect) before the bike was even fairly rideable. Then the valve cover gasket pushed itself out at those tabs (i didn't do a good job when i replaced it during the head change.) then, my starter relay gave out. all of this added up to me wanting to throw the bike under an 18-wheeler. i almost threw it to the ground a few times.
now, as if that's not enough, i'm leaking oil again at the head gasket, up front by the exhaust. I think i didn't clean the top of the cylinders well enough, and some oil stayed behind when i put on the new head gasket. now oil's finding its way through.
so what's the dealer gonna charge, do you guys think, to replace the head gasket, tune the carbs, and give it a general tune-up on top of that... make it in great running condition.
and if i do have them do that, and keep the recipts, how much value does it add to my bike? (it's a 96, 15k miles. perfect paint/body)
i want to get rid of it in the spring... if i haven't destroyed it yet.
labor here is $72/hr. Not sure how long that job will take, but at that rate, it'll add up FAST.
ya, i decided i'm just gonna re-do it myself again i think. there goes /another/ weekend. :guns:
OK Perfdrug... send me your carbs. I'll sort them out and send it back. I'll tell you what I did as well so since you are already familiar with them it will be easy to know and repeat later if needed.
Cool.
Srinath.
thanks sri, i may take you up on that. let me decide what i'm gonna do first, but i'll get back to you this weekend prolly.
