Title: First ride on the GS <big grin>
Post by: Jenerator on July 24, 2004, 07:51:14 PM
I finally got to take the GS into the back parking lot today; her rejuvenation 99% complete (all she needs is a nice paint job).

Not only was it my first time ever riding a GS, but it was my first time on a bike in 4 years.  When I had to buy a new car in 2000, my RZ350 had to be parked and then I ended up selling it last November because I didn't want to stay with a 2-stroke.

Finally, I'm close to being back out there again!

With the bike being totally foreign to me I was hella nervous, but took it real slow and learned the clutch's feel first.  Then I got up the nerve to take her down the length of the lot and turn around, and soon I was doing slow but steady loops at each end.  The position of the footrests are going to take some getting used to, but I think I'm gonna like this thing.  It's just going to take me some time to get my comfort level back again.

This is the highest cc bike I've ridden to date, so the weight of the bike feels different.  Had a few small wobbles at slow speed/u-turning (caught way before the point of no return), and even stopped on the upgrade into the shop by mistake.  I almost panicked because I really wasn't comfortable enough to think I could do the start-up-on-the-hill-thing at this point, but I made it up after a couple of balks. :)

Today's "ride" reminded me why I would NEVER take someone else's bike out for a spin.  It's just so different than what I'm used to and easy to drop!

I can't wait to get over this nervousness!! :bs:

Out of all the bikes I have ridden (all bigger displacemant bikes) the Gs is one of the easiest bike I have ever ridden.
Sounds like you had fun, enjoy, and once you get over your nervousness go hit some twisties, and enjoy even more big grins, love at first lean.

I must admit, I stole the word 'hella' from Jamez Hetfield...I'm a huge Metallica fan (pre-black album, that is).  Their 'some kind of monster' song is alright...

Anyway, I hope to get some more practice time in soon!
