Title: newbie and mods
Post by: deuce big on July 28, 2004, 10:38:05 AM
hey everybody.  greetings from sunny san diego.
i've found this forum and the gstwins website to be amazingly helpful even though i just got a 99 gs500e two days ago.   title and registration are still in the works, i've got my learner's permit, my helmet and safety gear is on order, and MSF class scheduled in august.  in the meantime i plan on doing some simple cosmetic mods like shortening the turn signal stalks (thanks for the LP part numbers, kerry) and cutting away the fender.  i'm excited as hell and i hope biking is the life for me.  somebody told me that it's either in you or it isn't so i guess i'm about to find out.  other than that, i hope to be communicating with you guys/gals more in the future.

peace,
:cheers:

not sure about CA, but in MD, I had to have a fender in order to pass inspection.  You might want to wait on the fenderectomy untill after you get inspection and title.  It only takes like 10 minutes, so it won't cost you that much riding time  ;)

Just about everything you want to do that bike you can find here. Use the search feature liberally 'cause chances are someone else already asked the same questions you will have. Gratuitous posts are highly encouraged. Have fun with your '99..... :cheers:

I'm in Huntington Beach but my folks are in Daygo so I'm there every other weekend. I want in on the club. Can I be the Sergeant of arms? I dunno what they do but it sounds like a cool position.

I think you answered your own question there... the enthusiasim only grows when you actually get to ride.  And then there's this place to give you your fix while you can't be on your bike ;)   Welcome to the madness

I was living in PB when I started to learn how to ride, a whole year and a month ago.  I would go ride up in and around La Jolla, up by Mount Soledad. If you go after rush hour, not many cars and you can find some nice curvy rounds to practice on, like Via Capri.

LOTS of san diego riders here, as well as OC too. You guys should do a Ortega run like was done couple years ago, twice.

cut that fender off!...like this  -->clickage<-- (http://pantablo500.tripod.com/pablosgs500page/id48.html)

NEw clear mini blinkers on front and back.  Pulled the license plate up and hacked off the fender.

I am in El Cajon by the  way! :?  :?  :?

Hell ya, lets get a SD club together. I'm new to the area, otherwise i'd be suggesting places to go riding. I'm pretty much down for whatever except when my bike is apart, which seems to be a lot now-a-days. I'm doing a jet+pods+exhaust kit right now... carbs gotta get dialed in. I'll let you guys know what's up after that. if you guys want to meet up sometime and maybe just hit highway 1 and cruise up there... that'd be cool. I'm pretty much a newbie too (under 1 year of riding) so nothing excessive.... YET. Love to drop the bike almost to the pavement when going on/off freeway ramps though.

i actually went for my first real ride on sunday.  she was sitting in the garage for a little while and i woke up early sunday morning to practice (only got a learner's permit and beach traffic is a nightmare on weekendsd) and she wouldn't start. had to go to buy a battery charger.  anyhoo, just learning as i go...once i get all my paperwork legit, anybody want to meet up and give a newbie some quick lessons?
