I think the bar end style changed with the 2001 model year. My '99 still has threaded inserts inside the bar.
:) thanks for the quick reply, but is that a yes, or a no?
i've got a 96, and i think mine only have the internally threaded hole at the end.
i'm thinking the answer is no.
if it helps any i have a 2004 gs500.....the bars are hollow. I've bought a similar style carbon fiber bar ends. The rubber expands when u tighten it hence making it "stick" inside the bar.
If your bar isn't hollow, you can remove the rubber and just screw in the bar ends. They should work.

Hmmm.... what was the question again?
I don't have personal experience with EVERY model year, but as far as I know the '89 -'00 models had threaded inserts and NOT hollow bars. The style of bar end you found on eBay will NOT work for these years.
See my
Throttle Retainer page. The pictures are of a '96 bar and bar end. The bar end and threaded insert seen there are identical to those on my '99.
Your eBay find SHOULD work for '01+ models.
gorgeous. thanks kerry.
'03, 7/8ths Hollow. My bar ends are gripped by a rubber bung expending as it is compressed by bein pulled up against a nut with the bolt, cross head, going throught the bar end.
On the 89-00 you take the rubber off, and maybe shave a bit of the metallic part and screw it in the nut.
ON 00+ its press fit... just screw in and righten till you're bloo in the face.
Cool.

I have an '02 gs and those would fit on my bar, I bought similar ones only chrome.

it's all about the bling
sri, so you're sayin those would work, with some dremeling? i was thinking they may too, but i'm not gonna just buy them on that chance. i'm in no real rush, i'll prolly just wait till someone else parts a bike.
They might not even need dremelling... the aluminum part of the thing that sits inside the bar seems to be pretty short. So should be able to use the thing as is...
Cool.
