Title: tall riders
Post by: srileo on July 31, 2004, 05:57:25 AM
Am i the only tall rider that seems to be not 100% comfortable regarding the GS's ergonomics? I find tucking my feet up so high a tad uncomfortable on the highway. (uh, maybe i need to go to the gym more often...)

Has anyone rigged up a mechanism to lower the pegs and gear lever a bit? or push them a tad forward?

I must confess though that my previous ride was a cruiser :-)

How tall are you?

I am six feet. I have a stock handlebars (couldnt stand srinath bars for more than a few days)
I also keep wishing the handlebars reached out an inch or two higher and towards me. I have just that leeetle bit of wrist pressure that i;d rather not have. Any cheapo risers?

Just yesterday i sat on a Honda 519 standard and noticed that it had a very similar riding position to the GS, but the pegs were lower and it felt better that way.

You should try sitting on a race-replica then!

I'm 6'1" and don't have a problem with the GS, in fact compared to other, sportier bikes I've had, its down right relaxed...

Depends on what type bars you have.  I just got http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7912235345&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

About $60 He also does other ones which fit the older style bars.  Some of the guys on the english site have them and seem happy.

I'll post a bit more info when I have mine back on the road!

I am 6'2" and its pretty comfortable for cruising.
Its a little tight on the knees, and can get uncomfortable on long rides (feet falling asleep).
It is almost impossible for me to get into a full tuck, as me knees are in my chest and my elbows are somewear below my knees.
Maybe its just cause im fat and need to loose some weight.....

I'm 6'0'' and find that it fits me very well.  It's probably as good as it gets on this type of bike.  Give it a chance and you will get used to it.  There is nothing wrong with the position it's just different.

6 ft 1, bike has drag bars, as long as I'm disciplined about my position it feels fine.  If I'm lazy and slide forward too much, my knees stick out and my wife makes fun of how I look on the bike.

Though when I ride 2-up, I tend to get pushed further forward, thus doing the chicken-knee thing again.   :dunno:

I'm 6'5 and I had drag bars on mine until I crashed it, thus bending the bars.  I'm thinking of going to some aluminum dirtbike bars, partially to get some rise back, and also the width that the drag bars were missing, felt wrong somehow.  I'm used to riding a newer YZF600 and my YZ125/250F, both with 2 inch taller seat foam, so those are my reference points, although I am wanting to get some sort of different peg setup, and probably a higher seat too.

Hmm, i went on a 200 mile trip yesterday. I did get used to the position somewhat,  but my butt started aching in less than an hour.
what persists though, is a dull ache below my right armpit, on the back...

odd. Oh well, time for gel seat and a riser.
