Title: Scoop....Gel seats available....$116.94
Post by: The Buddha on April 03, 2003, 08:48:21 AM
Ok. Found it at Parts depot...1 800 245 3101 ask for Robert... Their price on the gel seat is $116.94 + shipping from NJ. The cheapest I found other wise was ~$150 which was a great price but this is even better... Parts depot on Kawi and suzuki parts are just plain miles ahead on prices....Anyway Just a Public Service Announcement for those that want one. They also had case guards for $47.
Cool.
Srinath.

Well I have used a corbin and its very comfy but hard as a board...Good none the less cos there is a bit of cushion on my rear end, never used the Gel but word has it that its soft like the stocker but has more material so that you aren't going right through it and hitting the base plate. I expect it to be softer and have good depth.
Cool.

OK what are you looking for You want me to buy and send to you??? I actually can get you to send rupees to my family and buy it from here etc but how do we get it sent over??? Yea with a GS you are bound to be the only one in India...However you can make parts at macininsts if you needed so you are probably not too bad off. What do you need though.
Cool.

I keep worrying that they will quit making everything for the pre 00 models. You have the opposite worry right.
Cool.

Thanks for the reply Srinath. It feels good to know that if I need something  I can count on you and GSTWINS.COM to help me out.You can courier it and I settle with you for the full cost including shipping.Let me check the customs regulations and if there is a specific clearence required.
Fortunately the bikes in pretty good condition and everthing is ship shape, but I want to be prepared.

Thanks
Mohnish
Title: Gel seat...
Post by: The Buddha on April 05, 2003, 11:32:56 AM
India is cool for seats and stuff. I doubt you want to get a gel seat. In the US its very expensive to get a decent foam and vinyl cover made for less than the $117. I paid 150 per seat last year and that was just shaving off foam, not adding on and contouring.  So Jared's offer for 140 for redoing the set with added nd contoured foam is a great deal. These gel seats are not going to be around for long and I wanter every one I know to get a chance to get one. You should try to get things that cant be made in India. Shocks, the meters, and other parts like the gas cap, ignition sets, electrical parts, come to mind. Metal, body pieces etc are easy to get in India cos you can get them made just as easy. Just a thought.
Cool.

If I remember correctly, the gel seat rides a little bit higher than stock, right?  Does anyone have a picture of a GS with the gel seat?  I checked the Wall of Fame, but didn't see one.

Thanks (and thanks for the tip, Srinath),

Ok fellow GSers.  Here the info I got from Robert:

Part number:  99950-62159
is  $116.94 us, which = ~$175.00 cdn

+Shipping
these are the rates I got from Robert:

$27.75 us for 4-10 days air shipping(to canada)
$20.50 us for 4-6 weeks ground(to canada)

which equals

42 cdn
30 cdn

That puts my total to about $220 cdn for the air shipping.

Now we shouldn't have to pay duty on that, since it's made in the USA.

The best price I could find in Canada was from Cycle city in Burlington, which was 269 + 15% taxes.

If anyone know for sure about duty info, please lemme know.

I have a gel seat on my GS.  I sent a couple of photos to John via email months ago when the old board was up, but not sure if they ever made it to the wall of fame.
If anyone wants to see the gel seat installed, shoot me an PM and I will email one.  Or I will try to post to the wall of fame, but PM may be faster.

I don't think it adds much to the seat height.  I can still mostly flatfoot with both feet.

Greg tried a Corbin on his street GS for a bit, but returned it to the person he was going to buy it from because it wasn't better for him than the stock seat.

So is the gel seat better for long rides?

Post it to the wall of fame.  It will resize it to fit and everything.  As long as you have the inage file on your computer you can post it :)
