Title: Second ride on the GS...progress!

Yesterday I went by the shop to go for my second ride.  Somehow, it felt like the amount of time I'd spent off a bike was shorter than 4 years...my memory of riding, shifting, leaning was coming back to me!  I felt more confidence this time, before I even started it up!  Cool!

I had a bit of a problem starting it (last time my hunny started it for me) because I didn't realize with these 'new-fangled' bikes you HAD to hold the clutch in when pressing the starter button.  That's a great feature...if my RZ had that, it would've saved me a couple of drops in the driveway!    :bs:

Anyway, got her fired up and once she was warm enough, I jumped on and went.  I did a couple laps of the parking lot (rather cramped, busy area behind the building) and then decided to venture out onto the street (industrial area).  When I rode her for the first time last week the mere thought of going on the street scared the crap outta me because I was afraid of even going fast enough to shift into second gear.  Somehow, this time, because I felt more confident, I had no issues.

Soon, I had her up to about 60 km/h and was fine shifting up and down through the gears.  It felt great leaning into the turn in the road on the new sticky tires.  What a rush!  I can't wait to go again today!! 8)

Congrats, but watch out, some "new, sticky tires" are slippery for the first few rides.

If you really wanted to put-off shifting, you can go pretty darned fast in first before you hit red-line   .  OTOH, the throttle input gets mighty twitchy up there  ;)

Haha..well I wasn't taking the corner fast enough to worry about slippage.

My tach doesn't work at the moment (got my new cable ready to install), so I'm just going by sound of the motor for now.  Hopefully I'm shifting close to the correct RPMs...

Beautiful, did you do the paint? If so, you are an arteest   Nice bike. Glad you're back on the road. Love the little GS500 and the forum.
