During the trek across country with the two bikes in tow on my truck and a Uhaul trailer on Anne's car we may end up having an emergency of some sort and it might be good to have a few phone numbers of anyone along the way.
Our journey will take us down 90 to ohio, then 71 to st Loius, then 40 to Phoenix.
If anyone here is along this route and would like to PM me their phone number just to have in case of an extreme emergency I would appreciate it. I really don't know anyone along the route and if the trailer dies I might need to leave a bike behind and come back for it later. Or god knows what could happen on the way.
Just asking. Thanks!
John, I sent ya a PM
I would happily, but your on the wrong side of the country...
Hey John!
Any particular reason for going through Louisville and Nashville and Memphis and Little Rock? I'll show you why I ask....
Here's your proposed route (I think):

Here is the shortest route (but it takes you thru New York City -- Yuck!):
And here is a happy compromise. An extra 30 miles for not going thru NYC (worth it?) but overall you cut off 150 miles:

If there are things you want to see along the original route, 3 hours over a period of days isn't that much. But if you just want to GET THERE...! :dunno:
Hmmmm. Those last 2 routes DO include a ~170-mile turnpike from Joplin, MO to Oklahoma City.
Anyway, if you need any help with KOA Kampground or Motel 6 or Super 8 locations, let me know! I've got the books....
BTW - If anyone is interested there is a copy of Streets & Trips 2003 on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=51342&item=3692275932&rd=1) with a Buy-It-Now price of $19 plus $6 shipping.
on august 20th i go back to school for the semester so i'll be just north of indianapolis. if your trip takes you way south tho (which i think 71 does) i dunno how useful this would be. let me know if you'd like my info.
You already have my info- but I am on the wrong end. :( :( :(
Hey folks- Take care of this guys... they are worth it!
:thumb:
you're passing too far north of us...
Wish I could help, but you're about 400 miles north of me at the closest point. Good luck and have a safe trip! :thumb:
PM sent.

if you guys decide to kerry's route #2 you'll be coming right by pittsburgh. If you should choose to do that let me know and I'll pm you my number.
Jake

Did you guys see the MMI announcement in a recent issue of Cycle World?
They're holding a contest for a free 57-week course. The application involves a 2-minute creative(?) video saying why you want to be a motorcycle mechanic ... or something like that.
I'll try to remember to scan it in tonight.

yeah, and if you go either of THOSE routes, you will go right by ME! YAY! DO IT!!
ahem, and Kerry, what is so terrible about going by NYC? :guns:
;)
John, you should try to make it up through Denver... it is beautiful up here!
Chris
yeah It is beautiful I was there in June, f**king cold too. ( I was in Vail around midnight, Denver about 3 hours later there was about a eightth of a inch of frost on everything.
MANDATORY detour through NC: we have some of the best motorcycling roads in the US it's a good 600 miles out of the way but it's worth it.

Actually, I really WOULD like to visit NYC someday (besides just the JFK airport... ) but not if I'm just rolling through on my way somewhere else.
Hmmm. How'm I gonna DO that? :dunno:

Here it is anyway. From the ROUNDUP sidebar on page 28 of the Sep 2004 issue:

i'll be going for the honda, and maybe yamaha; seeing as those two manufacturers make the bikes i want. yeah, i'm kinda running in alone too. been to phoenix a couple times, niether time too long though. it should be a good time though, and pretty rewarding as well. i'll be done with college here in dec, so should be going down right after.
really, what are you majoring in at your college, i went for a year and a half, but wasnt for me, so im hoping mmi will do somthing different and i will enjoy it
and im doing honda/suzuki because those are the most popular bikes around reno
i'll have a degree in history and philosophy, with minors in art history and classics. i enjoy them all, but really don't want a career in any. i think i'd like mmi a lot, and then after i did that, if i still wanted to go to grad school, i'd have that option. it should bea lot of fun though.
