Title: Rear Suspension Preload.
Post by: TOMIMOTO on August 04, 2004, 07:12:17 PM
If i adjust the preload will it make the back of the bike sit higher. I like how the more sportier bikes have a higher back end than the front and I want to make my F look sportier without messing up the handling though. Will adjusting the preload do anything?

Also where can I get some of those progressive springs for the front. It's way too bouncy. My dad says when he stomps on the front brake he can easily bottom it out. He's an old motocrosser and he's used to stiffer suspension. I only way 120-130 pounds (depends on how much i eat in a week) so it doesnt bother me much as far as bottoming out. It would be nice if it was stiffer though. Thanks.

If you crank up the rear preload it will make the bike stand up a little bit in the back, but not all that much, especally sitting still with you not on it.
Higher pre-load will just prevent the bike from sagging so much while you are sitting on it and over bumps.

To make the back stick up (as Doug Chandler calls it: " The stink bug look") you have to change the ride height, by changing the lenght of the shock, the linkage, or the dogbones.  This WILL affect handling as shouldn't be attempted unless you know what you're doing AND have a good reason too.

Progressive fork springs ARE a really good idea and can be gotten from a variety of places.  Your local dealer (if you want to wait) or online from the likes of bikebandit.com etc.
