Title: What a ride!!!!
Post by: GRU on August 04, 2004, 11:08:10 PM
well as usual i went for a ride with friends....and these guys don't go slow, they push to the limit all the time....so when i ride with them i push my bike to the limit and do pretty good.....their bikes are 600cc - 1300....most gixxer 600 and 750's, 2 gsxr 1000 and 1 hayabusa.....after the ride all except a friend on a kawi 636 a guy on a gixxer 1000 and myself.....we were bored so we decided to take a usual route and half way through the ride we stop at a trafic light....the guy on a gixxer 1000 get's off his bike and looks at me and sais "take it easy" so i'm thinking he's mad because i was close to him on the last corner we did but noooooo, he want's to trade bikes.....so i say "hell no" because i just don't want to sit on a bike for the first time and take the corners with it.....anyway, i get on his bike and he sits on my GS....i take it easy first and then open the throttle.......all i can say that is a amazing bike....very very fast, corners like a dream and very comfortable.....and i can say that it's the best bike i've ridden after the hayabusa and all the other gixxers 600 and 750's

although i would love a gixxer 1000 i can't afford one (nor the insurance) so i'm planing to get a gixxer 600......i've riden a friends and i like it a lot

just though i'd share

Wish I had freinds like that  :(  - lucky bugger.  How would you compare the acceleration to the GS (or is there any comparison)?  How about the weight difference?

I got a chance to ride in my friend's R6 (previous model) in a parking lot (slow).. seating position is very aggressive... well.. I can only compare to my GS... and it sounds so much nicer (GS is like lawn mover).

Nice to have someone that trusts your riding ability.  :thumb:

I have been very picky about who I let ride my TLR. Besides a buddy who had to test ride it for me (I had a broken collar bone), I have only let one other ride my bike and she used to race in wera.

I was offered to ride a friends 999 Duc next time we get together.

i don't trust many people with my bike but sometimes i let them ride it.....it's a good thing though because not many people wanna ride a gs500 lol

anyway, the gsxr is so fast that i didn't even redline it.....you just can't compare the gs500 with a gixxer 1000...let's just say that a gixxer accelerates to 120mph in about 8 sec and a gs takes about 20 sec if you can reach that speed....it takes a gixxer about 10 sec to get to 150 mph....the riding possition is much more agressive but i find the bike more comfortable than my GS (weird but true)
the gixxer is a lighter bike than a GS.....but just a little.....the gs has more weight at the bottom so it feels lighter but the gixxer is higher so feels a little hevier......

I can speak about GSX-R750 comparison -  regarding acceleration there is none. The GSX-R750 is faster in 2nd gear than GS top speed. And the gixxer gets there faster than the GS tops out the 1st gear. :)

The weight? Dunno about the 1000, but the 750 is probably a bit lighter than the GS.

The cyclistics are different and together with steering damper riding the gixxer is quite different to riding a GS. It would take some time to get used to it.

Here are the dry weights from //www.suzukicycles.com:

GSXR750 - 163kg/359.5lbs
GSXR1000 - 168kg/370lbs
GS500F - 180kg/396.8lbs

Steering dampers do not really take getting used to. Actually, they have a tendency to slow down the turning of the bike. Most dampers are linear in resistence but the speed sensitive ones do not affect the steering as much during normal riding. Most stock dampers really suck.
