decided to change the oil today and noticed the drain plug and the filter were on way too tight...i was using all my weight as leverage and could not get the drain plug to budge at all....any ideas on how to get this off?
How did you put all your weight on the drain plug? Lay your bike over on its side?
:?
Make sure you are turning it the right way, sometimes because you arn't looking at it head on left isn't loose and right isn't tight. (yes I have done this).
If all else fails you can lay the bike over and get at it with an impact wrench or use a breaker bar on it.

Yep!
If I need to wrench on an upside-down or inside-out (?) nut or bolt, I set the correct direction on my ratcheting wrench FIRST, and then push or pull whichever way gives me resistance.
If you're using regular, open-end or combo wrenches ... you're on your own.
I chewed the head of the drain bolt off.. .and then put it on its side and got it out... now I gotta put in a good one.
Cool.
Srinath.
Get a hollow pipe and slip it on the end of the wrench (hopefully it is a closed wrench or you will have to be more careful it does not slip off). If possible, get a hammer or sledgehammer and take some :guns: frustration out at the same time ;)
If you happen to lay it on its side, then you can put your weight on it by standing on the pipe (be careful).
Good Luck.
let me clarify a couple things...
1. i have a ex250 and the bike was on the centerstand
2. let me rephrase "putting all my weight" w/ pulling the ratchet w/ all my upper body str. & weight.
also i am pretty sure i am pulling the right way...i got the filter bolt off pulling and i imagine the drain bolt would be in the same direction...i think im going to try the pipe/hammer method..thanks guys...
had the bike for a lil less than a week and i put 200+ miles on it already..is that normal?
If you ride more than 200 miles a week it is.
:)
Good luck getting it off. Just remember this "adventure" when you go to retighten it...
what size ratchet are you using? i never have trouble torquing mine out, but i guess mine is a good foot long or so. maybe you should get a larger one, for extra leverage and ease. jsut be careful not to tip the bike.
