Title: Stall problem, HELP!!!
Post by: sczj on August 06, 2004, 07:17:45 PM
Hi,

I have a 1999 GS500E, and my bike will start with the choke on, but it will stall immediately when I shut off the choke. I have had my carbuerator cleaned 2 months ago, and that was supposedly to fix it, but it's coming back.  The only thing that I can think of is that I have bad gas since the gas in the fuel tank is more than 1 year old.  I've been trying to run it through and get a fresh tank, but apparantly it won't let me.  Is the gas the problem causing my stall, or is there a problem with my bike?
Thanks a lot.

when you say "had my carbs cleaned,"how was it done? with rattlecan cleaner, or dis-assembled and into the cleaner can, also how long do you leave it on choke?

Depending on jetting a GS needs a few minutes before it is happy at idle without choke.

How I start up my bike:

Apply full choke (almost full required, even in warm weather)
Start moror
reduce choke to adjust RPM to about 2000
Take off
Gradually take chocke back to keep idle at 2000 RPM while the bike warms up
Afer a few minutes I can ride (and, more importantly, stop and idle) without choke.
