Title: what can i do about missing rubber washers on the frame
Post by: brandiwine on August 10, 2004, 10:08:58 PM
basically i'm missing the rubber washer type things that the body panels insert into that keep them in place on the frame.  the one on the right tank area is gone from getting eaten away when i had a leaky tank and the rubber is missing where it connects to the frame in the middle as well.  this makes the right side panel very insecure.

anyone know if i can buy more or is there a good work around besides zip ties?  i haven't had the panels on the bike in over a year. i originally lost the right one on the highway after it blew off because of the missing rubber things.  i just bought a new set and don't want to lose it again.

creative suggestions welcome.

You can buy them from Ron Ayers for $1.31 each, or from BikeBandit for $1.65 each.  I've never bought stuff from either place, so you may want to compare shipping costs.

See items 19 onthis Ron Ayers page (http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_0027/frame_cover_1994-1996/frame_cover_1994-1996.cfm)[/list:u]andthis BikeBandit page (http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/oem_schematic_view.asp?schem_dept_id=723913&section_dept_id=1&section_dept_name=OEM+%28Stock+Parts%29&dept_type_id=2&model_dept_year=1994&model_dept_mfr=Suzuki&model_dept_id=703265&model_dept_name=GS500ER)[/list:u]

Pull one and take it to a good hardware store.  They should have a rubber grommet that is a reasonable fit.

That's what I did and the replacement, though not exactly the same, works fine.

I did the same for a missing rubber pad under the seat.  Also worked fine after adding a washer to get the correct spacing.
