Hi all,
My new job begins in 3 weeks and i am contemplating a few long rides (200-300 miles) around Atlanta. For some reason, though my bike runs fine, i have a paranoia of being stuck by the side of a lonely road. I actually start imagining strange noises and handling issues. No bad experience to date, (well, once), but still I am just not comfortable on the lonely highways in this country....
Anyway, I am contemplating purchasing an AMA membership ($40) + their MowTow towing service ($30) annual. Does anybody have any experience with MowTow? how fast they arrive etc? Also their site says that towing for the first 35 miles is free. What after that? Is there a set rate per mile?
Thanks in advance,
Sri

I also think about the same thing you do, getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere.
I never heard of AMA towing service.
Where do I find info on that?
AMA is short for American Motocycle Association. Its the biker equivalent of a AAA membership.
If the bike is an 04 model, the warranty book states that a tow to the nearest dealer is covered.

Hey is there a number to call for the AMA... and do they have a state by state help line or some like that.
Cool.

the AMA (IMO) is much more than AAA. it's a sanctioning body for racing. it's also very politically active in protecting motorcyclists' rights.
joining the AMA is kind of like supporting public television. you're not as much paying for a service as giving to a cause.
cheers,

It's a good deal. Many people use it. I almost used them a few months ago when my valve cover gasket blew out but managed to patch it before they came.
A normal membership is like contribuiting to a cause, but the Mo-Tow is almost exactly like AAA. It costs more, but insures that your bike will be towed and/or handled by a professional experienced with motorcycles. The manual may say that a tow is covered, but that may not be the case for a flat, out of gas, or other non-warranty related failure. The AMA # is: 614-856-1900
Does anyone know exactly how a moto is towed?
What kind of tow trucks can do it?
What need to be done to the bike before lifting?
Thanks guys.
