Title: BT45 owners - getting less sticky?
Post by: BRB96Z34 on August 20, 2004, 03:52:13 PM
I almost crapped out today coming home.  Came to a light I cross at every day and halfway through the turn the front tire let go for a second.  I didn't lean too far and wasn't going fast and the road was clear so I can only guess it was the tires.

My back tire also seems to lock up really easy with little resistance when it does.  Also, I was turning away from a stop sign a while ago in clear weather and my back end fishtailed a bit.  I know it wasn't the road and can only guess it was the tires.

I got my tires about two months ago and put about 400 Km on them so I'm sure they're broken in.  Am I goofy or do these tires seem to be getting more slippery?   WTH?

like scratch said what was the tire pressure? Also what was the weather like? I know my BT45's HATE even cool temps until they warm up. I did something similiar to your stop sign mishap on a road I travel often as well.

When does your backtire lock up? Is it after you downshift? I usually blip the throttle before I release the clutch when I downshift and that helps keep the tire from squealing. Also check your chain tension/sprockets to make sure they are correct.

I have had my BT45's for about 5,000 miles and they have been great.  I have not encountered any out of the ordinary slipperiness. :?   I do check my tire pressure every day that I ride.

I get a squirly rear turning at lights or signs ever now and then. Running BT45's also. Pressure is perfect.

Tire pressure is right on and weather is clear and sunny although it was kinda cool today.  I had to make a couple of emergency stops a while ago and the back locked up both times and it seemed like there was no resistance when it locked up.

I have BT45's on my bike and don't normally have traction problems.  If I'm too enthusiastic on the rear brake it will lock but not too often.  Could it have been something in the road/on the tire that you didn't notice?

My BT45's have excellent rain traction though.  I was very happy with them and they impressed/surprised me more than once during last winter's rains.

Another question is were your tires warm? Cold tires don't usually stick very well. And I've had my front skip out a little on cold mornings at a left turn light, two miles from my home. After the 10 mile freeway ride, my tires are warmed up enough though.

I also have BT45s and they seem to stick less when I first get on the bike. Once I am riding for a while, they hook up fine. :dunno:

It's not a warm up problem, when I almost lost it I was 3/4 the way home.  I'm not sure what the problem is, maybe it's just me.
