Title: Dyno Run
Post by: goggleman on August 20, 2004, 08:11:58 PM
Well I had a friend at the motorcycle shop offer to dyno my bike, just for giggles.

I have: 99 GS500E; DynoJet S3, (40 pilots, 125 mains, 2 washers) and a K&N Pod, with a stock muffler. Still saving for a slip-on Yoshi since the fulls are nearly impossible to find. :P

Peaked out at 33 horse power.  :dunno: Hoping the pipe will kick that up to ~ 40?

He wanted to bump the pilots to 45's to get a little more out of the muffler, but I figured I'd just have to change them back in a month when I get the pipe so I'm gonna leave them for now. As it is, it's still running a bit lean. Stalls out in the low end easier now, but the power difference from stock is noticeable. Sounds cooler now too.  :)

That sounds a bit low to me...Ninja 250 pulls, what...28-29? I thought stock baby G was about 38-40...ok Bebe, I'm gettin' another HD...JK. Love that little G and the forum.

that is very very low

you should be at 40 and the slip-on will not help that much....maybe 2 hp max

can you scan the chart? at what rpm does it make the most HP
check your float hight, i'm sure it's off and that's why you're not making the power

What kind of dyno is it?  I have heard dynojets read much higher than an eddy current type dyno.  Supposedly the eddy current style dynos read a more realistic horsepower but I don't really know.  Is it SAE corrected horsepower?  Was the bike at operating temp when it was on the dyno?
Title: 40 and 44...

40/125....should be ~39-42... and K&N pods and slipon and 40/150 - 43-44.... realistically 5-6% for stage 1 and 10-12% for stage 3...BTW 45 pilots ....big no no... at 42.5 the rich hole in the throttle response at take off will make you stall the bike 9 times out of 10... Tried that... nope... Huge jump... 2.5 steps is massive for the pilot range... 2.5 is 7% of 40... while 2.5 is only 2% of 125.... miss the mains by 1 spot... no big deal... might not even feel it... miss pilots by 1 and disaster...
If that Dyno reads low, and dont be surprisedwith a 10% bump in the after run... and switch dyno's and it may jump to 44...that dont mean you gained 11 hp... or 33%.
Cool.
