Title: Someone tried to STEAL my bike!
Post by: Meighan on August 21, 2004, 01:34:01 AM
So I park on the street (http://www.meighan.com/bike/bike-on-street.jpg) out front of my downtown apartment, and since I had a bike stolen from here exactly a year ago, I decided to get an alarm (http://www.3rdwatchalarms.com/) on my gs500.

I just had it installed a couple weeks ago, and tonight I saw it work!

The alarm works in a couple ways, when the bike alarm is tripped, it pages me and tells me someone is messing with the bike, waits 5 or 10 seconds then sounds the alarm. (this is so that if it's just me forgetting to disarm the alarm, I have time to turn it off before it starts blaring).

So, I'm sitting here in my apartment and it pages me, I look out my window and there's some guy sitting on my bike messing with the handle bars trying to get it out of the lock position! 2 seconds later it starts blaring and the guy jumps off. There's another guy with him and they start making angry gestures at each other. I took my camera and started taking pictures from my window, they look up at the flash and run off down the street!!!

Haha I scared them good! The pictures didn't turn out because it's dark out (1:30am), I'm way up in my apartment and the flash didn't reach all the way to the ground. Succeeded in scaring them though!

I looooooooooove my alarm!!!!!!!

Nope, it's the SecuriPage 200 from 3rd Watch Alarms - Great alarm!

Looks good.  I put a Viper Responder on my wife's car.  They were the originator's of the pager style alarm and this thing is great.  I opted for the proximity module, so it goes off if you even stand near the car for a few seconds.  It also added remote start, and keyless entry.  I was going to go Scorpion with me new TL but now I'll check out 3rd Watch.

that is a very cool feature on a remote. now your gs can page you if it gets lonely or too cold or if it is scared of the dark too. i want to get one for my bike, although nobody would want it. good for you and screw bike thieves. those thieving bastards. :x

That's great!  Can you add a feature to eject the rider with great force at the touch of a button?

It's funny, I take my GS to New York City all the time and never even put a lock on it.  Never give it a second thought that it will get stolen.  If I get a little concerned I just park it near a BMW.  Better than an alarm.  I figure that if I'm a thief I'll go after the BMW.
When I lived NYC I always had Peugeot cars.  No one ever messed with them.  If they stole it there was a very limited market for it on the stolen market.

For some reason whenever I go to the 3rd Watch Alarms site I can't get the SecuriPage 200 product info to load, what's the difference between the 100 and the 200 (including price)?

And maybe we should all get antitheft devices like the Magnavolt from Robocop or one of these systems from SD.  8)

Yeah, the website needs help. If you go to the 200 page, and you highlight the area where you think there should be text, there is text there that appears when selected... I keep meaning to look further into it, I think it's a messed up style sheet. I'm friends with the guy who created these alarms, and since I'm in the business of making web sites he asked me to do an audit on the 3rd watch site, and I haven't gotten around to it yet. So yeah, blame me.

Anyway, the difference between the 100 and 200 is added features like proximity detector, further paging distance, and a couple more advanced settings.

sounds like it might be time to invest in one of those remote spy cam's and a yard sale VCR with the 8hr loop tape. or an old old PC and large Harddrive.

I tried that and only got a little bit of text that didn't show up before; nothing about the product info though. What's the price difference between the 100 and the 200?

Thanks.

Hey, I've updated the web site with the new product info for the 200 alarms. There's too versions, regular (which I have) and lite. The 100 model is currently all sold out, but the 200 is the newer one anyway, so if it was a price thing I would go with the lite version of the 200 because it works better.

If you're interested let me know, I can probably get you a deal. :)

Ughhhhh........ Okay I used to take my cat out for walks (I feel bad that he's always locked up in my apartment and can't go outside on his own) but I had to stop because of all those stupid little yappy dogs!

I love dogs, but I hate it when people refuse to control their animals... grrr!!

Thanks for the offer but right now I'm just looking around.  I'm probably not gonna get an alarm until next season when I get another bike.  :thumb:
