Title: Anyone know VOLUME of oil in each fork tube?
Post by: Crimson on August 21, 2004, 07:39:52 PM
I recently did the lazy man's progressive spring install.. I'd like to change the fork oil as well, anyone know the volume of oil that should be in there?  The reason I ask volume is that I am going to do them one at a time so the forks are not compressed.. so I can't go by height.

Volume is a bit in accurate because the oil tends to get a lot of bubbles... and the legs trap air etc...so you actually will have to work the air out of the legs... and by the time you do that the bubbles in the oil also will be gone... so level is better... BTW I did with volume on other bikes and its been good...
Please post about the carbs...wondering how my long distance jetting is working...
Cool.

As noted in http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7427
QuoteI took out total 725ml out of both old shocks. But maybe a few more ml. stuck to the springs. I put in 400ml. per side to get the level up to where Progressive suggested (140mm below the top, compressed).

...so I'd have to guess that you would add a little less than 400ml to each tube.  You'll have to estimate how much oil you think stuck to the insides of the forks tubes.

Actually I have only ridden the bike once or twice since I put the carbs in.. just too busy with work.. but I definitely plan on posting a full review and endorsement!  I'd like to put a couple more miles on it before giving you my official thumbs up.. :)

350ml's or cc's.
