Title: couple photos, as requested by Kerry
Post by: straightforward on August 23, 2004, 02:33:33 AM
QuoteCan we reasonably anticipate some photos from your corner of the world?

yes, you can! Here are some photos of my recent 3 days bike tour (http://romano.at/pixs/200408/tour/en/) through central & south Austria! :thumb:

Great pics.  I'll have to get one of those wife mounted cameras some day.

My personal favorite is "Sun Aug 15: on our way back home to Vienna", it's about 2/3 of the way down.  It has a road winding down into a very green vally with wooded hills in the background.

good choice, manofthefield

although, if you are not on a slow modem connection, you might wish to download this pdf file (2,7 MB) (http://www.grossglockner.at/index.php?id=151) - these pics, obviously made by _professionals_, make you addicted (pity it is not yet available in English, I called them today to check), and let you anticipate what danci1973 experienced some weeks ago (our group is on planning to do the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse August next year).

Beautiful!

And, look at how smooth and well maintained the roads are!

Great photo-chronicle!  The buildings, the road signs, the landscape all "take me back" 25 years to my time in Germany.  Europe is just so amazing!

I only went to the Alps once - in a bus - on a quick trip to the LDS temple in Zollikofen and back.  I hope to visit the area again, but definitely on a motorcycle this time!  :thumb:  And possibly a train or two somehow.

This was at 'World Famous Biker Days' in Pula, Croatia (http://www.bikerdays.com/). It was fun.  :nana:

danci,

her riding as a pillion does not necessarily mean that she is brave, I'd rather assume she is simply used to it as she has been doing it since she was 17 or so (which meanwhile is some 34 years ago).

And, those Biker Days: will they take place around the same time next year? If so, I will have a strong tendency of going to Pula then; btw I have spent _many_ vacations in Premantura which is just a quarter of an hour further South (opposite West of Medulin). Where exactly in Pula did this happen? The website you linked to seems to be of fairly limited compatibility with my paranoid browser settings :dunno:.

O yes, she is! :) At least from my perspective (I'm not comfortable riding in the back). And not holding on with both hands! :o

Yes, I think it's gonna be around the same time.

You just ride like you'd ride to Premantura and you'll bump into it (it's at the last traffic light in Pula where you turn left for Premantura).

With hundreds of bikers there, you can't miss it - you just have to be very, very carefull not to be hit by wannabe stunt-riders (this year I've seen two of those crash into each other - not a pretty sight, but they were both generally OK).

PS: If you do go to Pula next year, make sure you announce that either here or on the German GS500 forum... :)

Hey, Danci,

going to Pula has been on my agenda EVERY weekend in some of these summers when my kids were small... wife & kids & caravan at the beach in Premantura, me working all week, then hitting my >> QUATTRO <<.... - Renault, Quattro, ie R4, 750cc, 34 hp that was... on Fri afternoon to arrive at somewhere around 2am in Premantura, and back on Sun at 10am to Vienna... those were the days!

So, considering that I was able to doing it with the R4 _numerous_ times a year, gimme 10 serious reasons why not to do it once on the GS, please!

It is certainly just a question of maybe conflicting business appointments, but most likely I will be there next year. All my vehicles, and the GS is without any doubt included, do / did find Premantura 'by instinct'... with the only one exception having been when my younger son drove down his first time with our Hyundai (pronounced in this country 'HUND-EI' - which directly translates into 'dog-testicle'... ) and at the Ljubljana exit went to the direction of Karlovac rather than to Postojna. But Karlovac aint too bad anyway.

Pictures like yours and others I've seen of Italy, UK, and Germany really make want to visit Europe even more.  I'm also curious to see Norway and Sweden.  Some of the heaviest of metal bands (Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Amon Amarth, Thyrfing) comes from there and I want to see why that may be.  I think a summer bike tour with a couple friends would be absolutely the best.  All in time I suppose 8)

I'm curious about a bit of a joke/rumor I've heard.  I know its a bit in poor taste and I really don't mean to offend anyone.  I've heard if you say you're from Canada instead of the US, people will be nicer to you :dunno:

i saw Immortal when they toured with Manowar and Opeth when they toured with Nevermore.  both excellent shows.
