If you're talking about what I think you are, they are highly illegal on anything but an emergency vehicle.  I wouldn't want one.  Big trouble.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, DONT DO IT!!

Seriously, there are some things that can be messed with and some that shouldn't be messed with. This is one of those that shouldn't be done EVER!

Ambulances need to be able to get where they are going as quickly as possible. You are not as important as an ambulance. If anyone I know ever gets one of them, I would kick their a$$ about as hard as if they had stolen my bike. :guns:

OK, im done now.  :)

I think he means the magnets or other contraptions that can sense a motorcycle at a traffic light.  Most motorcycles can't be detected like cars can.

if ur talkin about wut i think u r, try to place ya bike about 1' on the inside of the detector line :) i believe that way, the metal on ya bike will have the maximum trigger effect on the detector..

but if ur talkin about wut i think ur not talkin about, try a search on google. im sure someone will be willing to give info. maybe even a cop

I have been stuck at several lights and thought about trying one.

Oh. I didn't even know things like that existed. I had just heard about the flashers that trigger stop lights.

I haven't had problems with detectors yet, but I will keep this in mind.

I think this is more of a problem with the supersports made out of mostly aluminum. I've never had a problem with lights on my solid steel GS as long as I rode directly onto the detector strip

The problems I have had was while on my TLR. Heard that putting down the kick stand near the wire helps break the field to trigger the light change.

There are two left turn lights I stop at on my commute that the bike just plain won't trigger.  I've tried moving the bike all over within the lanes, putting down the kickstand, etc., and those two won't see the bike.  Just about every day I get to them, try a few things while the light cycles, then run the red.

No other light sensors give me trouble.

The light comming out of my condo, has a hard time triggering my car, let alone my bike.  And a few more lights on my way to work are the same.  I got the sprinter way:  Put my kickstand down, SPRINT to the pedestrian button, and press it, so that the light turns green then sprint back on my bike before the light turns green so that the car behind me doesn't get pissed that they can't get anywhere.  I usually look behind me to find some people (usually the pretty girls that live in my condo complex) laugh at the funny guy in the helmet that runs funny (assumably.)

don't the cars behind you trigger the signal?

I know in San Diego, when approaching a red light, if you flash your headlights between higbeam and normal as fast as you can a bunch of times it triggers the light to change (as if you were an emergency vehicle).  Not sure about a motorbike, but with a Lexus GS300 it worked. Haven't tried it in any other cities, a friend showed me it when i was visiting down there.

That "Green Light Trigger" is a magnet.  Plain and simple.  A friend of mine bought one a couple of years ago.  You can get magnets much cheaper at Home Depot or Lowes for much cheaper.  And yes, they do really work.  Quite well, as a matter of fact.

Yea..  the top of the lights in SD have sensors that pick up that light.  I have a Lexus IS300, and it works really well, but only cuz I have really strong highbeam.  My bike's highbeam isn't even as strong as my car's lowbeam.  It depends on the light, sometimes they don't pickup the car behind me.  I'll just pull a lil' past the ped line, to let the car behind me pick up the sensors

Yes, magnets are legal.  They just let motorcycles be "seen" by the road sensors just like cars are.  I put mine on the cross member of the centerstand with a zip tie to help make sure they stayed there.  Ride over the edge of the sensors.  They work every time.  Best $3 I spent on the bike.

Quote from: indestructiblemandon't the cars behind you trigger the signal?

In the rare event there's a car behind me turning left, yes.

I'll try the magnet.  That sure sounds like a cheap fix!

find a trashed out speaker and pop the magnet off the back, it will work the same.

i don't know... seems safer to just run the red light than to leave the bike in the middle of the road and run across that road twice (while wearing a helmet)
