Title: Front brake
Post by: patricia on August 29, 2004, 07:06:52 PM
got a question:  Hope it isn't a repeat but here goes:

I've had my 95GS500E for 5-6 months, used of course, and have no idea how old the front brake is.  Seems like lately , I am praying that I come to a stop when I need to.  It looks fine but it feels different.

Advice???

check to see if there is enough brake fluid.  Is there anything left on the pad? If so look to see if the rotor is warped. Some ideas off the top of my head.

Do you know if/when the brake fluid has ever been replaced?  Check the fluid level AND the fluid color by looking:brakes on a '92 (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9767) thread for a more in-depth discussion of the reasons behind this recommendation.

BTW, if you have a 14mm socket and wrench you can pull the two caliper mounting bolts, pivot the caliper up and off of the rotor, and do an up-close thickness check on your brake pads.  And if your '95 brake pads need to be replaced, the process should be the same as for the '92 discussed in the thread that I linked to above.
