2000 GS500, 2000 miles ( I bought in July)
I'm sure this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it. Anyhow, I just followed the poor man's rejetting guide & installed:
127.5 mains
40 pilots (The new pilots had holes along the shaft part, originals did not)
2 washers
K&N filter (in box)
3 turns out on air screws.
Bike started right up!! Idled kind of rough, so I followed the directions in the tutorial for adjusting the air screws:
Screws 1 turn out
warm engine & turn off choke
Set idle to under 1000
Back out screws until tidle no longer increases, plus 1/4
Set idle to under 1000
blip throtttle, (I had instant response & return to idle)
reset idle to 1200
I could make no difference in idle speed by turning the screws. I left one side at 1 turn out, adjusted the other side out. No change. I turned it all the way in, no change. I reset both to 3 turns out.
I had to meet a supplier, so I took the bike. 50 miles of hwy, bike runs great, 127.5 mains and K&N = huge improvement. At less than 4500 rpm, the bike runs & sounds like dog meat. Uneven, missing. It does have plenty of power & no hesitations anywhere. I am getting a small amount of black smoke from the exhaust at idle. Ocasionally it will die at idle. Restarts easily.
What did I mess up?????
Thanks!!
Chuck
Pilots with 6 holes on the side like a machine gun...OK you need 37.5's in that. Non bleed, no side holes 40, bleed 37.5... but do non bleed please... these aren't meant for this bike. OK OK I can make it work but that doesn't mean you put that in... I can also make mikuni carbs run on keihein jets... that doesn't mean that the right thing to do...
Cool.

!!!Wow, that was like an instant response!!!!
Yep, like a machine gun. Guy at bike shop said no problem.................
From reading your other posts, I'm sure you can make it work with the wrong jets. Could probably make it work with duct tape & bubble gum. I'm a hack & will try really hard to stick to the right parts. I already have enough problems ........
Thanks!!!!!!!
non bleeders are hard to find in stock at any shop.
keep checking you'll find them.
Once you get the correct pilots in, you will love it. I did the same exact rejet and the bike runs awesome. :thumb:
Crap, I just fell into this. Dealer only had bleed jets. And I get it occasionally dying once warm. Stock intake and exhaust. 40 bleed pilots. 122.5 mains. 1.5 ro 2.5 turns on idle screws, it seems to be loading up. So I can throw my old 37.5 pilots in, or get non bleed 40s, I guess. Time for a Buddhe jet kit, I guess. For now maybe I can crank in the idle jets.
