Title: Careful out there... (cage accident)
Post by: ScottWV on August 31, 2004, 02:30:06 PM
Driving to the bank on my lunch break.  Woman pulled out right in front of me from my right side.  I mean, I was just a few feet away when she pulled out.  Says she didn't see me.   I was travelling about 40mph.   Needless to say, glad I wasn't on my GS.

Here's a couple pics:

Sucks about your car man.  Glad you're okay though

It strange that I get more people pulling in front of me in my Toyota pickup than I ever get on the bike.  Just goes to show that there are just too many people asleep at the wheel.  I suppose if they actually look, they might see a bright friggin red Neon coming down the road.

must have been hard to see your car, being that it's painted in that stealthy red color

at least you're alright.

I was just saying the same thing; I drove a car (first time in... um... well, weeks, anyways), and got many more "left-turners", oncoming traffic turning left across my path, than I get on the bike.  I had always assumed that drivers just didn't care about hitting bikes, or that they misjudged speed, etc., but it seems as though they see me in a car and cut me off even more!

I think people tend to be a little more nervous/cautious around bikes, and space out around cars.

Or we're still novel enough to command attention.

This was my rearending back at the beginning of the year.  The stop sign just wasn't clearly labeled, I guess...   :P

Poor miata,  I have a miata and a GS too. Which one do you like best? Don't be afraid, no one is gonna say anything if you say the miata.  What year is it?

I have a '95 (I sold a '90 to make a track car out of the '95).  The nice thing about the Miata and the GS as a pair - they're each more fun than the other in some way.  The Miata's handling is dang hard to beat, especially with the mods I've done; she hangs well with E36 M3s at the track.  The GS has a thrill and speed factor that the Miata can't match.  I feel better about pushing the limits on the Miata, because the consequences of traction loss on a car are less painful.  They're a good pair.

I have some body experience, so I fixed the damage myself (I had a local shop weld in a new bit of unibody to replace the crunched bit, and another do the spray after I prepped the car) and got m'self a new paint job and new shoes with the payout.  She wasn't totalled, and I was unhurt.  Miatas are tougher than they look!

yes, they are tougher than they look. I've actually survived a rollover in one (93 black and tan , no rollbar) now i have a 97. And I agree, the miata and gs are both fun in their own ways. I haven't been riding long, and to tell you the truth I was begining to think it wasn't fun, but then I started leaning lower and lower, and suddenly, it's a lot of fun.

Well, of course yours is. I mean, the thing has teeth. I can't say that about any car that I have driven.

Yea, that's exactly what my Fiance said.

I think maybe I forgot to turn my cloaking device off....
