Title: oil leak?
Post by: Jeff P on September 03, 2004, 06:37:28 AM
Ok think I might have a little oil leak.  I've noticed some oily grime on the rear side of the engine.  It's right in the middle between the cylinders, there's a silver colored doohickey sticking out the back just above where the grimy stuff is.  Any thoughts?

The "silver colored doohickey" is the timing chain tensioner. There is a small gasket there. An easy fix. Just a $2 part.

It is funny that this topic got brought up. I was about to post on this topic too. Anyway I have the same problem. The difference being that I tried changing out both gaskets and the little rubber plug. Still leaking! Not so much the larger "main" gasket but more on the plug now. One other thing i noticed is that it didn't leak at first, but after a week of ridding it leaks like a siv. Enough to aquire a spot of oil 3" around on my garage floor.

Any suggestions on the reason or solution?
