Title: Bar end removal
Post by: jermflux on September 03, 2004, 12:34:29 PM
I ordered some nice new ends that use a compressed rubber to hold them in, simple enough.  My question is, how do I get the old ones out.  My first guess is a slide hammer but I can't find mine.

Thanks

What year is your bike?  Mine is a '96 and you just use a phillips screwdriver to remove them.

I'm guessing from your guess that yours are different...

screws and end come out fine, it's the middle drum inside the handlebar that is seized. Seems to be steel, where as the new ones I got use a compresed rubber stopper system of keeping them in.

that piece your talking about is plug welded in.......i really doubt you can get it out.....hitting it wont do anything but you can try drilling out the plug weld.  Look on the handle bar and there is a dot where they drilled a hole in the handle bar to weld that center piece in....get it.....i cant explain stuff well
hope it helps enough

The center plug is welded in, some other options are barends that dont have the rubber, LP makes some the just screw right in, or you can replace your bars.  Thats what I did on my 96.
