Title: Looking for a GS - have a question
Post by: bcbickers on September 04, 2004, 06:26:44 PM
Hi All!

I am a new rider and looking to get a GS for my first bike (sort of, long story).  I found a nice purple '95, but it has a dent in the frame.  See the picture below.  Is this going to be a problem?  Is the bike worhtless now, will it track and drive right. etc?  Anything I should be concerned about?  Thanks!

Brian

If everything else looks OK, you're probably alright. There is pretty heavy gusseting in the steering head area of the frame so a ding at that point by itself shouldn't be a problem. I would ask the owner how it happened though. If the bike went down, the side cover on the engine would show at least a scuff too. If it wasn't dropped then  ? :dunno:

yeah, the GS is a heavy duty player, that is a hefty piece of steel painted to look like aluminium so provided everything looks correctly aligned i would not worry too much, make sure what you pay reflects the risk.
Good luck and welcome.

Hiya Folks!

Thanks for the replies.  I acutally passed on that one.  Too much unknown info and the owner wouldn't reply to repeated questions.

I did, however, find one a little further away from me!  It's a black 93.  She has a few bumps and bruises, but nothing that can't eventually be fixed.  As soon as I get her home and cleaned, I'll post some pics.

Thanks for all the help!!!

Brian

P.S. - I now have an 83 Honda CX650 Custom for sale if anyone is interested.  Showroom new.  Check her out here. (http://www.twtex.com/viewtopic.php?t=2071)
