Title: seat wobble?
Post by: the_ted on September 06, 2004, 06:10:32 PM
:?
I noticed that my seat seems kind of loose when it's locked down on the bike; it'll rotate a little bit (L-R) around the spring popper thing, but when I'm sitting on it, it doesn't move... is that normal? or is there something that needs to be addressed?

The tank bracket is on backwards... Doesn't affect the tank...but affects the seat... also make sure all grommets are there under seat.
Cool.

When you attach the seat, be sure that both seat posts latch.  If you push the seat straight down, in the middle of the seat, maybe both will latch, and maybe not.  If only one latches, then the seat feels a bit loose.

I usually push down or the right edge of the seat, and listen for the right seatpost to latch, then again on the left egde of the seat, and listen for that side to latch... removes some of the "was that one click or two" guesswor.

tank bracket?? so do I have to remove the tank to switch it back around?  I'm pretty sure it's not just the sides not latching, since I've tried pressing it down and hearing two *click*s and it'll still wobble

thanks all

It sounds like the hardware on the underside of the seat gets clamped down.  Can you tell if the hardware is tightly attached to the seat itself?

How about the seat release latch hardware - is it tightly attached to the frame?

It sounds like they are missing the little round rubber pieces on the bottom of the seat

the four rubber bumper things under the seat are there, and the locking hardware is all solid (both on the seat and frame).  unless those aren't the grommets that srinath is talking about... grrr... shoulda taken pics or something... I'll probably try to pop the tank off this weekend and poke around to see if that's the prob

Me either.   :dunno:  Well, give me time.  The night is young yet!

Meanwhile, in addition to the 4 rectangular rubber bumpers there should also be 3 round rubber buttons and a rectangular foam piece.  (See THIS BikeBandit DIAGRAM.  There should be one #2 piece, two #3 pieces -- all three of which seem to be identical -- and a #5 piece.)

My seat is upside-down on the dining room table, but duty calls.  We're off to Wal-Mart for ... who knows what.  I'd take requests for WM pictures, but we're leaving NOW.  Later!

My seat also has some play at the area where it attaches to the tank. One of the rubber spacers was missing for a while and I think cause of that the white plastic got chewed up a little on that side (right side, I think).

I tried to 'fill' the missing plastic with hot-glue, but I guess it's just to soft and doesn't stick to the original plastic enough to hold my weight...

I guess I'll try with some two component epoxy or something.

Title: The rubber pad...
Post by: The Buddha on September 10, 2004, 07:42:39 AM
The rubber pad... 2 inch by 3.5 inch or so in the middle of seat sits on the battery, if that is AWOL it will move sideways a little, and if the tounge in the front is not sitting in the notch under the tank .. it will move sideways. Make sure the tank bracket has the notch facing backwards for the thing to fit into...
Cool.

Would the seat also move if the battery were replaced with a smaller one (like a sealed battery, etc.)?

A sealed battery sideways is the same height as the regular battery right side up.... so usually wont make any diff... however my 89 has a extended batt box and that fits a sealed battery right side up, and effectively... no... Its not that much of a bearing point for the seat evidentlywithout riders weighton it...and then with weightseat dont move around as much anyway ....
Cool.

kerry, thx for the pics!  :thumb:

the verdict... that horizontally oriented pad on the front of the seat looks a bit chewed up, as well as the actual seat tab, but everything else is what it's supposed to be.  Didn't have a chance to take the tank off yet, but there certainly isn't anything in which to slip the seat on, so that's the likely culprit.  If I get the chance this week, I'm gonna yank the tank and switch that bracket around

thanks again, guys! y'all rock!     more Q's to follow as I get more into this bike... ^_^

tank bracket was backwards, problem solved... now i just need to replace the tank's cap and solve the rust problem ^_^ this is turning into more project and less bike lol  :thumb:
