Title: Carb Synching
Post by: vegasda9 on September 10, 2004, 09:51:10 AM
Okay, i'd like to get a V&H exhaust system, add a K&N filter and get the jet kit for my '04 F, but, before I can even think of doing these things, i want to have a crystal clear idea of what is involved. I know i should do the rejet if adding the exhaust system and K&N filter, but is it really necessary?? I was reading the service book and it says i need to synch the carbs, and there is a special "tool" to do this. How much should I pay for the tool (I don't want to get ripped off) and how does it work?

Yes, it is necessary to jet with full exhaust and filters. The bike will run lean (and therefore way too hot) if you leave stock jetting.

Search carb synch on the board and  you'll get some hits. Somewhere on here are plans to build a carb synch tool with some basic materials you can get for 12 bucks at the hardware store. I used it and it worked well. If you're the type that would rather buy the tool, expect to pay round about 50 bucks for a pair of mercury sticks or vacuum gauges.

Chaparral Motorsports is the cheapest source I have found for the Motion Pro "Econo Carb Tuner".

If you'd like to try making a dirt-cheap tool yourself, start by reading through the old maintenance thread.
