Hi everybody! I'm writing from Italy, so my English - you'll see - is not very good...
I was looking for my first motorbike. I would like to buy something of simply, but also with a good engine to have some fun! I've seen on a magazine the GS 500 F, and I like it, but i've read that it has only 35hp on the wheel (it's a magazine's test), because of its catalyzed exhaust system.
So I ask you... You know this bike like yourself, so tell me if it could be "my" bike! ;)
The second question is: if I should buy the GS 500 F, how could I increase the engine's performances?
Thanx a lot!!!!

If you're looking for a performance bike I would step up beyond the GS500. Common problems with the GS are overly weak suspension and breaks. As for increasing performance, I have no idea other than a new pipe, jet kit, and the regular bolt ons you see.
Your english is also very impressive =]
Welcome. It is my opinion that your first bike need not be too powerful. The GS will still get you up to 120mph (not sure what that is in KM/H) and will hang in the twistys with the best of them (I hear Italy has great roads). With some minor suspention ungrades, it makes a very capible and fun beginner bike.
when I speak about "good engine" and "fun" I only speak about a not-boring bike, not of a R1, don't worry!
It's only that I don't know if 35 Hp on the wheel are too few to have fun.
In other words, i'm not only searching for a "commuter", but also for a funny bike, with a engine that can make me enjoy the riding: something to go to work and go to have a funny weekend out with my girlfriend.
I'm choosing from:
- suzuki gs 500 f (the one with the fairing...)
- honda cbf 500
- suzuki gsf 600 bandit s (I know, it's a little bit more than the others...)
What should I do? COnsider that I've never had a motorbike...
Thanks a lot!
Honda CB500 would be the best choice (ducks head and runs for cover)
