Title: couple questions
Post by: rockadoo on September 18, 2004, 06:33:55 AM
I have a pair of clubman bars that I had mounted on a 750 Honda, I thought they'd be great for my GS500, but the top tree is too wide for these bars to mount! Anyone know where I can find a wider set that'll fit ? Also, is there any adjustment to the monoshock ? The bike seems fine solo, but  when riding two up the rear drops so much as to throw off the handling. On my older bikes the shocks could be adjusted for extra weight.

On my 2000 there is a preload adjustment  for the rear under the seat (allen wrench I think). I believe it comes set for medium weight 3rd or 4th position. I think the range is from 1 to 7 but don't quote me on that!
:) Hope this helps, Wilson

Yep, it goes from 1 to 7, and it's set on 4 from the factory. I've tried to adjust mine to see how differently it rides, but I can't find a way to get the wrench thing on there and still leave enough room to actually turn it - any hints ?

would it be possible to cut your bars in the middle, then weld in some extra material to widen the bars?  Could be a cheap fix if you know a good welder.

Hey, if you have the tool for the shock, (http://www.prodigyweb.net.mx/sergiodelrio/fotos/Preload1.jpg)

then after some struggle you can fit it well enough from under the bike,

to turn it clockwise (view from top) and adjust shocks preload, I used a large screwdriver to help
