Title: what did I just do to my bike?
Post by: BilldaCat on September 18, 2004, 12:03:38 PM
I was an idiot and started moving the bike to lock it not realizing I left the cable lock on since I don't use my krypto disc lock anymore.

anyway.. the damage:

that cable basically snapped to where it secures around the front wheel .. it runs into the speedometer.  how screwed am I?  clutch and front brake still work fine.

definetly the speedometer cable..  so now I can't tell how fast I'm going. :\

is it hazardous to ride if i secure the broken cable so it stays out of the way?

From what I remember, the speddo cable can be detached using the little screw in your pic.

so then all you need is the speedometer itself. (that thing on the axle between the fork and the rim.)

your cable is probly ok, looks like the drive unit for speedo is screwed though. clean it up and break out the JB weld and reassemble the drive unit off the bike. clean all the grease out of it before JBweld
