Title: Question about Indiana Driving Test
Post by: Jasco on September 19, 2004, 04:28:41 PM
Planning on taking the driving test on saturday.  The closest place that offers it is about an hour and 15 minutes away.  The question I have is what should I expect to have to do.  I want to practice a little so that I can make sure that I will pass the test and not waste half a day riding out there to take the test.

Been riding for about 4 months and about 3000 miles.  I hope I can pass on the first try.

I plan on taking the advanced riding course next spring/summer, but want my license before then.

Thanks for any help or pointers you can offer.

Matt

I took mine in paoli too :)

90 degree left turn, weave in and out of cones, get going about 15 or 20 mph and have to make a stop in a box, pretend a dead dog is in the road and swerve around it, and i think there is one more but i can't think of it. sorry i took my license test 5 years ago. but its pretty easy, its better to hit/miss a cone than have to put your foot down. you can get up to a -10 and still pass anything over 10 is failing and you get 2 trys to pass.

good luck

i will be at a bike show on saturday in mitchell which is one of the towns you will pass through.

What girl racer said.  You start off with an offset slalom, then to an acceleration into a controlled stop (don't get out of first gear, and don't lock up your tires.)  90 degree left hand turn with about 3' of clearance -- stay to the left to give yourself ruom to cut the corner.  Emergency stop.  Again, don't get out of first gear, then stop with your front wheel in an approximately 2'X3' Painted box.  Obstacle avoindance:  accelerate to about 15 or 20 (once again, stay in first), then swirve to the right or left (they will tell you which direction before you run).  The approach is about 3' wide, then it opens up, and you avoid about a 5' line, then recover so as not to go out of bound.  Then you have a right hand U-turn in an approximately 15' to 20' painted box.  Do it slow and easy.  Hell, do it all slow and easy.  They deduct points for putting your foot down, hitting cones, and *gasp* dropping your bike.

If you go to the testing site early, chances are that the course will be marked already, and you can practice.  Getting there at least an hour early is a good idea.  There will be people there.  I guarantee it, and the test is first come, first served.  Bring your license, $5.00, and your motorcycle permit.  If you mess up, you can try it one more time that day, but you go to the end of the line.

Good luck!  :thumb:

i have heard stories from people in reno that if you ride your bike to the test without an experienced person (21 years of age and 1 year experience)
they write you a ticket on the spot and don't let you take the test

but then again...
thats in reno :dunno:
