Title: CBR F2 - F3 Rearset Install
Post by: Mk1inCali on September 19, 2004, 10:52:12 PM
Just thought I'd throw this out, I finally got my CBR F2 rear-sets on the ol' GS, and let's see...I cut off the rear brake master cylinder as you can see on Chimivee's collection of pictures.  Also, dremel'ed off the small offsets that must fit securely into the frame on the F2 so the main body of the rearset fits flush to the GS's frame.

I also dremel'ed/filed off all of the excess casting flash, "shaved" them all up, so they'll look nice once I paint them.  One key note if you are about to undertake this.  I dremel'ed both the upper and lower brake cylinder mounting holes on the rearset to get the spacing correct, and this left my rear brake on all the time.  So, I need to get the dremel out again, and copy what Chimivee did, which is just dremel up on the lower mounting hole, and leave the upper mounting hole's bolt in the stock location, or maybe even higher than stock.  This way, there will be enough room for the master cylinder to be extended naturally, and not compressed as it is now.  I'll take pictures eventually and show you all what I'm talking about.  Went for a short ride to fill it up with petrol after I got them on, and I definitely like it.  I'm 6'5, and I like how the new peg position positions my knees against the tank, and with the drag bars I have on there, it feels much better overall.

BTW, I also installed Bob Broussard's ignition advancer and wow, what a difference that makes in general engine response.  Can't wait to get a K&N pod on there and figure out which full exhaust I'm gonna go with.

Pablo- Want to meet up in Santa Clarita at Starcycle sometime when I have enough money to buy a full system and go for a ride?  Maybe meet there, install the pipe at your place, or Paul's shop, then go for a ride?  Just throwing out ideas...It'll be a ways off, probably a nice X-mas gift for myself.

Sounds good Tony. Might want to reconsider where you install the pipe. You'll likely need to rejet the carbs and I'm not set up or skilled/prepared to do that. Nor do I have a good place to work. Paul is a ways off, about 1hr ride to his place from me, add a half hour from Santa Clarita but very capable in that regard.

Since you're up that way I'll let you know the next time my buddies and I do a Little Tujunga/Boquet canyon run...or a Hwy 33 run...which might be soon.

When you've got all the install info I'd like to add it to the site so its clear what's involved to install the cbr rearsets. I'm glad they found a good home...

Sounds good on the ride, I'm pretty booked for a while again with school and finally doing all the work I needed to do on the GS before the last ride.  I'm hoping to have the rearsets figured out by the end of the week, but it might take me the weekend to get the brakelight switch figured out too.  About the jetting on my bike, I can't remember for sure, but I think I jetted it to what it should be with a pipe and K&N.  I should pull it all apart and get a Pingel so it'll be 800 times easier to get it all apart again.

Got my dad's camera here at home so I can email you the pictures or host them on my yahoo account once I get the rearsets painted all cherry.

My dad would be up for a ride sometime soon also, he finally got his Ducati ST2 rear suspension back together, and his Leo Vinci slip ons, and chip and aftermarket seat and bar risers and bla bla bla...He's a firm believer in at the very most 7/10ths on the road, so he'd be falling behind if I was running a pace like I was on the last ride.

About the pipe, it'll be a while before I have that kind of cash, I gotta fix my freakin' truck and get it sold!!

I'll have pictures of that too if anybody is interested in a pre-smog 454/Turbo 400/3.73 gear 12 bolt truck that is shaved up, lowered 5/7 with a flip kit and springs in back and springs/spindles up front.  Autometer gauges/bench seat/custom door panels...etc etc etc.  It's FOR SALE!!  or trade for a Datsun Z car pre-smog.

Ad over.
