You know, what really attracts me to the Baby G is it's nakedness, it's simplicity and the fact that it pretty much looks like a motorcycle and not like something out of a Star Wars movie. That Beemer would look right at home in Mad Max. Lovin' the little bike and this forum.

  if you think THAT looks like something out of MadMax, take a look at the 2005 Triumph Speed 4!

I will try to find a pic...

As Arlo Guthrie (sp) said..."I don't want a pickel...I just wanna ride my motorsickle". Where have all the motorcycles gone?? I love the GS500, and I love this forum.

Blech. Hate the new nekkid K bike.  As one buddy on the adv forum put it, "it look it was made out of an erector set by a kid on acid."  But it's probably a lot better looking in person.

Wish they'd hurry up and put the 1200GS motor in the R-bike frame (R1200R would be perfect).  A naked 100hp+ boxer would be right up my alley like an "R1200R"....or an "R1200S".

I'm no luddite, but aside from the HP increases with the new hex-head engine, I'm not exactly enticed to give up my 1150GS for anthing they've come up with.

The new speed triple looks yummy, however!

thats what bikes look like after you wreck em and take the crunchy plastics off.
It looks good on some bikes but definitely not a beemer

The side profile is sexy but the lights just turn me off, what can I say I like symetry.

Quote from: photogThe R1200GS "hexhead" motor isn't  the same as the 1200 motor found in the cruisers; that 1200C motor is a derivative of the oilhead, and that's the motor they're killing off. The 1200GS motor is a totally different motor from the 1150-derived 1200C motor. I know that sounds confusing; just remember that the 1200C cruiser motor is a detuned oilhead, and the 1200GS motor is the totally new generation "hexhead" motor which will make its way into other boxer bikes (R bikes).

What's the difference?  All I know is that the oilhead is so called because it's an oil-cooled head; I dunno what a hexhead is...

They are both air/oil cooled engines. The Hexhead, named because of the stylistic change to the head covers, is an all new motor designed from the ground up. It has a totally new FI system, lighter parts, revs slightly higher, blah blah blah... They are still both boxer twins and are very similar. The new one gets better mpg, burns cleaner, makes the EPA freaks happier, yadda yadda... Best of all, they have supposedly eliminated the surging problem in the R1150 motors that never exsited according to BMW even though they tried several different tricks to get rid of it. The new motor's FI system treats each cylinder as a completely separate motor. Each cylinder has it's own FI map and sensors. The other major change is the use of the CAN Bus wiring technology in place of a standard wiring harness with all of it's splices and fuses. Now it is more like a data network. When bulbs are about to blow or sensors start to go out of whack, the network detects this and alerts the operator to the impending failure. If th ebrake light filament burns out in the tail lights,  the system will lower the voltage to the running light, then up it when the brake is applied so that the sole remaining filament acts like a temporary brake light. There are NO fuses on the bike!

Of course like any new product, it seems to be experiencing teething pains  ;)

Adios,
