I got the appraisal from the insurance company back just the other day. For those of you that either didn't read about it or dont remember, my parked bike was hit in a parkinglot and knocked on its side. Anyway, the damage is definantly there, but hardly visibly noticable. Aside from noticing the bent handle bar, people would ask "really?" when I told them there was damage.
It's going to cost $3000 to fix!! The guy said if there were any scratches on the other side (scratches!! not even damage) the bike would be a write-off. :?
That sucks big time!!!....luckily you're covered by insurance. Imagine if the same thing happens to the new R6.
Yeah, if it is a write off, you can buy it back at a fraction of the original price and sell to us cheap.
What's wrong with these insurance ppl???
I had the same type of thing. Every scratched item gets changed.
I looked it over and decided to change only what really needed to be changed. I kept the rest of the money. You can always repair it later when it gets dropped again.
If you choose to repair things that are just cosmetic ask them for the old parts back.
Good luck
Yeah i was going to... maybe I can sell them here or on eBay... anyone looking for front and right-side black GS500F pieces? lol :P
Welcome to the expensive world of motorcycling. If you built a bike from buying the parts individually, it would cost about 10 times the cost of a new bike.
A local Salvage yard got bored and PRICED every part for a 1997 GSXR1100...new at about $9600
every nut and bolt, washer, doohickey....from Suzuki...$92,000 and change :? :? :?
damn. sounds like i should have filed that claim when I crashed. They would've definitely written it off as a total loss. bent handle bars, trashed rear fairing, bashed crankcase cover, bashed stator, dead battery, leaking oil, etc etc. but i got it up and running! and it looks like new! but i sure could have used some extra pocket money.

it wouldnt have come cheap. Your and my insurance will go up.
should have scratched the other side and bought it back from them for $300 after you got the new bike.
