Title: Left turn signals won't work
Post by: kidcoma on September 21, 2004, 12:53:33 PM
I dropped my bike a few weeks ago and since then, neither of my left signals won't  flash. I was parked on a slight incline putting air into my tires. I put the air hose back and the next thing I knew the GS was on the ground. Ever since then the turn signals were acting kind of goofy but now neither the front or rear signals work. The signal indicator still flashes but no lights. I tried checking the wiring and took apart part of the signal control housing. Everything looks normal but then again, I'm no electrical engineer or anything. I guess I could check if the bulbs are burned out but both were working fine earlier which leads me to think it's something else. The right signals work fine. Anyone have any ideas?

Earlier as in before you dropped it? You should have checked the bulbs first, they're not the most durable piece of equipment.

No, the turn signals were working fine before I dropped it. After I dropped it only the rear signal was working then both left signals cut out.

Yes, I got that. Check the bulbs.

First, check the bulbs. Even if they look good swap left and right bulbs and see what happens. It's cheap and easy.

Please describe "kind of goofy". How it acted in that short time may tell us a lot.

Unless the flasher has been swapped for an aftermarket no load type, the indicator should not flash if one or more signal bulbs are burnt out or there is an open circuit.

You also wrote "I tried checking the wiring and took apart part of the signal control housing." Do you mean the switch or the relay?

Well, checked the bulbs last night. You were right. It seems they got dislodged when the bike fell over. Thanks for the help guys.

:thumb:  Always check the easy crap first. That's usually what it is.

And if it isn't the easy crap, it'll be the most expensive stuff on the entire bike.
