SO, I have this great 2000 Kat 600 shock I want to install. One slight problem. The top bolt on the stocker has a nut on it that's half-rounded off. Before I go hauling it to a bike shop, I want to explore my options of getting it off. I have two thoughts, (1) vise grip. (2) buy a 14mm size ratchet that's made to pull rounded bolts.
ok, so I don't have a vise grip, but I probably should. However, I'm not sure if I'll be able to manuever the vise grip in to the nut (it's on the rear brake side of the bike.)
Any other genius thoughts that may help me avoid paying someone to do this easy job? :dunno:
Go buy a nut splitter. I think you'll have enough room on the nut side to get it on the nut. That or hammer a cheapie/disposable 13 mm over the rounded off (assuming it will go on....) end and wrench it off....

visegrip makes a tool for rounded nuts & bolts. I used one on a nut that was really screwed up , it worked like a charm. As I recall the jaws were like a triangle.
