Well, it has actually been missing since I purchased the bike, recently I found it wedged down in the engine. No clue how it stayed there for so long since I just reached in and pulled it out.
Now....I've been running all this time with it off and the spring exposed. I've also always noticed a slow leak of oil, usually one or two drips when I stop for a while (sometimes none). Can I expect this to be the possible cause of the slow leak? There is a bit of oil on the exposed tensioner assembly, I'm just not sure how much would possibly pass through there.
Hrm, need to open the Clymer when I get home and figure out what size screws I need, and fabricate a gasket.... :lol:
See if that fixes the slow leak, otherwise I start hunting elsewhere with a blob of JB-weld in hand :)
First i would get JB anywhere near that spring. It must remain free to turn in order to keep you cam chain tight. Second I had all the gaskets, covers and plugs in place when I noticed mine leaking. It leaked enough to create a puddle of oil approx. 3-4 inches around under my bike. I fixed the leak by purchasing a APE cam chain tensioner. APE pt no: ST750GX. Thanks to Bob Bousards suggestion. It fits and works great. i got it off ebay for about 45 shipped.

Oh, heck no. I'm not stupid...I meant hunting elsewhere on the engine block for leaks...
Non-moving parts + JB weld == good nuff for the trailer park :lol:
