OK, I admit to being a newbie. I just got my bike back from the shop after MD inspection, new rotors and new fork spacers and I noticed this tube:

I noticed that it wasn't connected to anything and when I moved it a liquid faintly smelling of gas game out. Not a lot, prob about a tablespoon or so. Now the tube sits like this:

I'm guessing it's a vent for the tank, but can someone confirm or deny that before I worry myself to death?
Thanks!
Its white?
There are quite a few tubes and what not that run around in that part of the bike. You will have to look up and around the carbs to see where it goes if you are curious.
My guess from just that pic is that its the carb overflow line, because the one off the tank is fairly small in diameter.
If the bike runs fine, and you aren't just DYING to know, tuck it back where it was and leave it alone.
It looks like the drain hose that attaches to the underside of the tank, in the middle. Here's some info about the upper end:

Can you get your hand up in there and determine where it's attached for sure?
[Just read JamesG's post. He's probably right - it may be the hose that normally drapes over the top of the airbox. (See my Fuel Hose Routing (http://www.bbburma.net/FuelHoseRouting.htm) page.) But white? :?]
OK pour a couple drops of gas into the gas tank filler mouth area, but no in the tank... and see if it comes out that hose. If so its the tank vent hose... else lean the bike over to the right... all the way... AKA like dropping it... and see if gas comes out... that is carb over flow hose...
Cool.
