since im not in town, can you please fix my bike.
if you wanna ride it just full insure it under your name (prefer a long time member that i trust - pablo wanna ride a 500 sometime). and go ahead, but it needs fixing first.
what's wrong..
1. I need my front fork seals replaced. I have all the items needed, it needs to be fixed though.
2. Valve adjustment probably needed
3. The handlebars need to be changed, the ones on it have rusted (damn flanders bars). I can do that the next time i come down.
4. If you want you can rejet it, there is a K&N lunchbox filter sitting in the garage, and i got a Jardine SlipOn exhaust there too. I can get the jets required for my 2001. I have the jetting info on me.
The bike has 10K+ and got new BT45's and has had its oil change done every 1500 miles. I havent ridden it since june. I charged the battery 4 weeks ago or so, started it, works fine.. but since im in sacramento and i cant ride, this sucks.
just one thing, let me ride when i get into town please.

Perfect!
I'm going to be in Pasadena for a few days in the middle of October. If nobody else jumps on your offer, _I_ may. My wife will be taking some classes and I'm just along "for the ride". My original plan was to trailer my bike out so I could ride the hills of L.A. while she's in class, but I don't know if it will be worth the hassle.
Not that I would necessarily RIDE your bike. But I wouldn't mind working on it for something to do.... :dunno:
kerry you are more than welcome to jump on to the offer.
I have most of the tools, i may be missing something small (check with me - you may want to bring your long fork seal tool that you created and anything else). Just in case you want to do a valve adjustment, I have a motion pro valve adjustment tool, i have feelers and stuff. I also have a whole set of wrenches and stuff. I pretty much have everything almost. If not the local autoparts store is not too far.
Basically I have everything, and if your coming on a weekned I may just drive down so you can see what's needed, and i will even help ya with it... and then its yours for the duration of your LA stay.
I trust you on my bike.. :)
We plan to arrive on the afternoon of Wednesday the 13th. The classes start on Thursday the 14th and go into Sunday the 17th. We MIGHT stick around another day or two to see some stuff afterwards.
You wouldn't happen to have some (garage?) space where I could set up my mini wood lathe, would you? I'd set it up in our hotel room, but I don't think the housekeeping folks would appreciate the shavings all over the carpet.... (I haven't even decided to BRING the lathe for sure; I'm still weighing my options.)
I suppose we'd better resort to PMs for further details.
yup i got garage space, infact my bike is parked in the garage with mom's car right next to it. So that works.
Infact I should be able to get down on the 14th evening.. (im planning on bunking class on the 15th) cause i got something to do in LA that weekend anycase... well the plan isnt set as yet, but so far it seems that weekend i have somethign to do in LA. So at this moment this seems to work out fine.

Well, if you Do want to ride some canyons I can meet up with you on that sunday and show you around...or just give you some directions to all the great local roads (malibu canyons-lots of them- and angeles crest area).

This sounds like the makings of another group ride. I missed the last ACH run. Who's in?
I don't mean to hijack the thread Manjul, but if we're gonna go and get all serious about this I need some input.
I haven't asked for a price yet, but what you guys think about the suitability of this unit?

Another guy that stopped said the wheels seemed kinda small, and the trailer was heavy compared to a slightly larger one he had just sold. (Can you believe I didn't get a separate picture showing the wheel size?)
Oh, and unless I rent something I'll be driving a '96 Subaru Legacy Outback that doesn't have a hitch mounted yet.
the tire sizes look about the same size of what i have used..
I have rented a Uhaul trailer for 25/day and ya its about the same size.. but i think the tread was wider.. as for the weight, i dont see a problem towing with that.. I have towed with my dinky little 2000 Ford Focus (110hp and 125 ft-lb). Your skooby will be able to tow no problems.
As for the "ramp" i would suggest later on welding on some "mesh" or something so you can ride it up the ramp.
I would suggest wider tires if you can get it.. more stability and better long running ability.
That looks like a well built trailer to me. If they are the 8" wheels you can switch to the 12" easily. But I've been using a boat trailer with 8" wheels for a long time without problems.
No worries for a 650-mile (each way) road trip?
i dont see aproblem with towing 650 miles .. though i would really like to have wider tires on the trailer.. it makes the trailer feel a lot more solid. The Uhaul trailers have a "wider" 12" tire.. and they actually make the trailer feel a lot more solid.. esp in cross winds.
As for 650miles, I did about 1000 miles of towing on my car in < 24 hrs.. no problems.
1000 miles = sacramento -> Anahiem and back via the 101 (via santa barbara) to the 41 ->5 to sacramento. I also did about 800 miles in about 19hrs straight with a tow.. no biggie.
So, only 2 decisions remaining:
own a trailer (where do I keep it? etc.) or should I look into renting?
2) And if I decide to own, I have to decide how much I'm willing to pay....[/list:u]Well, I'll see if the trailer is still for sale on the way home and then give them a call. Meanwhile, I'll look into rental rates and terms.
If you own a trailer, at least around here, you will have people asking to borrow it regularly. Should keep you in pizza and beer.
I think my mind has been made up for me. With hitch and ball and wiring harness alone adding up to ~$200,
Ole Yeller is probably gonna sit this trip out. My coworker even said I could use HIS trailer, but $200 for a single shot use? Not likely.
At $1.85/gallon that translates to 108 gallons - or nearly 6,000 miles of riding!
Lessee, what
else could I get for $200?
* A nice little air compressor and nail gun
* A decent router table
* A set of lenses for my camcorder
* A Big Mac every Monday for 4 years ("Ewww!")
* Any more ideas? I haven't worked out the approximate number of pizzas and (root) beers yet.... [/list:u]
Kerry/Pablo/Other So. Cal guys...
I talked with Bryce (Ignoreance) and we figured we could meet up with Kerry and Pablo and whoever else would be willing to meet up somewhere in LA when Kerry flys in for either a ride if he's got a bike available, or else just a quick grub somewhere...You guys PM me and I can talk to Bryce since he doesn't check here too often.
Let me know what your schedules are looking like, Bryce suggested get something together for a Little T ride or some of the twisties up north compared to Angeles Crest for this next weekend (probably Sunday) ride.
We'll be driving out from UT (rather than flying) so we can be free to do some sightseeing / shopping / whatever on the way home.
I think my wife's classes end around 4:00 on Sunday, so we'll be all checked out of the hotel that morning. But she's not that great with a crowd of strangers, and anyway we'll probably be "down the road" by dinnertime on Sunday.
So for a "quick grub", either Friday or Saturday would be best for me. Since my wife's classes go until something like 9 or 10 PM on Thu-Sat, anytime of the day will work.
In pasadena you'd be so close to Angeles Crest it would be a shame to NOT ride them (only 5-10 minutes away from base). if you're up to it we could get together one day and go 2-up to ride the roads up there...just bring your gear. Tony, Bryce and I could show you around. Lunch/dinner sometime when you're in would be cool too.

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons that I consented to come (and planned to bring the bike) in the first place. But now reality has set in. :x That's OK - I have a high school friend who works at UCLA, and several of you folks to meet up with. :)

Ooo, on the back of the
FAST CBR? Tempting! I'll probably bring my gear, if only on the off-chance that I get to ride
The_good_guy's bike.
But even if neither option works out, I'm planning to
ride out to CA one of these years, so no worries.
Quote from: pantabloLunch/dinner sometime when you're in would be cool too.
Sounds great!
Yes, the RED, FAST CBR.
Someone has to test out the Pillion seat on it... ;)
kerry, ultimately the only thing my bike needs is the fork seals.. it will get you along.. so if you can help me fix that on friday then the bike is yours until you head back to utah..
just bring your insurance, and your gear.. my insurance will cover me.
I will make sure i put some carb cleaner and clean out the carbs and stuff.. the bike seems to run okay, a bit buzzy, but its always been that.
Guys-
Sounds good, although Bryce said he's got class on Saturday until 3/4/5 PM or so, therefore, a Sunday ride would work best for him, but I could ride down, ride with you guys on Angeles Crest earlier Saturday, then Bryce could meet up with us somewhere, and we all go out and eat Saturday night before Kerry's wife is out of class? That sound good? I figure it is only 3 hrs or so to get to the base of ACH, so I could be there around 9 or so Sat. morning.
I'm going to talk with Bryce sometime this week and figure out exactly when he is out of class on Saturday. I usually work until 4/5 on Friday, so unless I stayed at somebody's place, I'd have to wait until Saturday to ride.
Keep us posted. And Kerry/Pablo, yes, I will have pictures very soon, my parents took their Miata down to Santa Monica yesterday to order 2 new computers from the Apple store there and check out the beach/pier and they took the camera which had my pictures stored on it. Now they are back, so I can work on getting them hosted on my yahoo account.
I live and work blocks from the promenade, where the Apple store is...

Kerry, It just occured to me that I'll be riding that Friday too. If you wanted to get out into the canyons on a relatively traffic free day Friday, Oct 15th would be ideal...
