Howdy :) ,
I'm new in the forum  despite that I don't have a bike yet I shall share all the fun with you guys!
I'm Mark  , I daresay I'm from Barcelona in Spain....I got myself this motorcycle of ours, brand new. Version 2004 yellow with the fairing... I still don't know how it will feel when riding but I'm all excited I even find it difficult when going to bed trying to sleep... it's sort of an ordeal not having my baby yet.
The Suzi dealer said he'll have it registered on monday :thumb: so with a license plate number I shall be able to call the insurance company and have it insured and hopefully on wednesday I could ride it for the very first time.
Well before I forget ... here goes my question.... as the bike doesn't have a light to tell you that you are runing low on fuel..... ( I know by turning the little lever I still have 1 extra gallon, more or less) but if I run out of gas and it stops, when turning to reserve to open it and let some of that extra gallon into the carbs will it start up right away or I'll experience problems ?will the fact of having gone dry, damage the engine? should I keep track of the mileage with the odometer?... let me know the pros and conts.... I hope I'm not being to inquisitive for a firstimer....
Thanks for everything in advance
If you run out of fuel before you hit the reserve "switch" put it in the prime position so it will start faster. And yeh, keep track of yer mileage so you don't accidentaly run out...if you are new to it you probably will run out at least once. Although I have never personally seen it, I have heard of a very hot engine being "hand-grenaded" while being run at wot when fuel was abruptly cut off. I guess anything is possible. Love that little bike and enjoy this forum and all on it. Happy riding.
C.......
Thanks Cernunos for your early reply  ... I hope to be fast on that "switch" as soon as I start noticing she's needed.
Btw... the tank open position is, what? :dunno: ,.....downwards? is the closed position .... backwards? and reserve maybe.....forwards?...just guessing....
Ps I know that riders salute one another when they come across with each other on the road.....any specific technnical name for that? hehe
Hey, many thanks again
It's called the WIuP salute (The what up salute),
Congrats on the new bike :thumb:
I'd recommend some basic rider training if you have not already had some (if its available). The basic course in the states really helps new riders.
I just wave or nod to other riders on the road. I didn't know there was a name for it
Looking directly at it, the fuel petcock positions are as follows:
arrow down = On
arrow left = Reserve
arrow up = Prime
Take some time sitting on the bike to get a feel for where the petcock is. When you feel the bike losing power and think you're running out of gas, its good to be able to switch to reserve without pulling over. You don't need to turn the engine off to change the petcock :)
Good luck and have fun!
