Title: Seat covers: what do you think of them?
Post by: Dima26 on September 28, 2004, 08:11:15 PM
I have a GS500F and I was desperately looking for a solo seat conversion. I just like the solo seat style a lot, don't ask me why. I have found this cover:

I enclose a pic:

Has anybody have any experience with such covers? What do you think of it?

Dima.

It's quite cheap, at $90.

I see nothing wrong with it.  Anne's GS had a custom Corbin seat with matching yellow passenger seat.  Everybody complimented it.

Plus if your seat cover is torn, $90 isn't bad.

I'd probably check with Corbin for a "Gunfighter" seat, rather than just a cover... but the Corbin would probably cost $350 :( .

OK vinyl can be painted... just mask it and paint... no need to sand... the paint is a sorta dye that soaks and colors the material... In fact that pic looks like it was painted... no seams where colors change...
Cool.

Paint is another option. I will probably consider the gunfighter seat. It looks very good and is around $250.

I just noticed that the gunfighter fits up to 2000 model :dunno:
Has anybody tried to fit it to 2004?

The pic isn't that great to see a seam...It's likely "one seamed" and not topstiched. Was it $90 for the whole seat or was it $90 for the vinyl cover itself?

Yes you can paint the vinyl.... Take a little laquer thinner on a rag (not alot)and wipe the seat down... then wipe it down with a damp clean rag and let it dry.The thinner will open the grain of the vinyl up to accept the paint better.  Then mask and paint .

The 04 seat is not the same as the 89-2000

I do custom upholstery ( I used to for a living - I still have my own shop at home.). I've made solo seats before...my free image hosting went pay so i don't have access to the pics at the moment....I'll see if I can dig them up.

Yep, it is. If you go to the web site above and find Suzuki GS500F in the list, you will get this pic. Unfortunately it does not allow me to post the direct link to the info about it.

It's a sewn cover- thats about in the middle-low end of their prices.

If you leave your bike in the weather alot you may notice the seat foam will get wet and your butt will get wet were you sit on the seams....happens with any sewn seams.....
