Title: no take off point to balance carbs!
Post by: johnlaughland on October 03, 2004, 11:14:08 AM
Hello, gr8 site!

I have a UK 2002 GS500E k2

Just went to balance the carbs and guess what? There's nowhere to connect the vacuum gauge!
In the manual there's a tap-off shown in the plastic diaphragm cover, but NOT on mine! Neither is there a tap in the manifold- any help much appreciated  :thumb:

I've never worked on a 2001+ GS, but here's a thread that asks (and hopefully answers) your same question:How to hook up Auxiliary fuel tank 4 carb synch??? (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6736)[/list:u]JohNLA has not been around for quite a while, so you may want to follow up with Manjul (The_good_guy) or Dathan (Hi-T) or another volunteer.

BTW, the BikeBandit link in that thread doesn't seem to work anymore.  Try THIS LINK (http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/showschematic.asp?dept_id=723022) instead.

Alas, your link refers to using the tank vac pipe as a take off for thr r/h carb. My model is gravity fed only and doesn't even have that!!!
thanks tho! :)

Hmmmm.  So, your left carburetor doesn't even have items 40 and 41 from the BikeBandit diagram?  Are you sure?  :dunno:

Also, I should have said more about thread I sent you to....

It starts out talking about how to hook up an auxiliary fuel tank to help with the synchronization process, but at about the 6th post it turns into a "where do I hook the vacuum hoses?" discussion.  Did you read from there to the end?

I'm fairly sure I don't have items 40&41 as per diagram and I did read the thread a-plenty!

I will have another look at my bike in case I missed it, but it won't be 'till next week cuz I have a busy w/end. I've done OK with my other bikes e.g yam xj500 and gpz600r and I have a nice 4 channel mercury vacuum gauge, just nowhere to put it lol!!!

I'll certainly let you know! thanks again!

On my 2001 the location of the vacume nipples are in different locations to that of the prior models.

On the right side there is a tube that goes to the carb on the side - that's the right side one.

The left side one is inbetween the left carb and the intake, its got a small plastic / rubber cover on it.

Mind you the two nipples are NOT the same size.. the one on the right is bigger than the one on the left.
