Has anyone ever put an electronic tac on a gs? I would like to get rid of my bulky gauges and put on an aftermarket tac but I dont know what to use and where to wire it in.
Most any aftermarket electronic tachs will work, they get their reading from one of the coil signals. Or even one from the earlier 3 wire gsxr's. I had installed a SPA on my old SV but not sure of the wiring details on the GS. There is a gsxr unit on my 91 GS.
GSXR ones work great....but i would recomend a nice custom made cover for the tach drive.
What year range and any idea on the wireing?
Early 90's like these:

or late 80's like this one but note that the tach starts a 3k:

I would have to look at the wiring on mine to provide more info on installing it. But basically since there are only 3 wires: one to positive, one to ground and one to the #1 coil signal.
I like the early 90s thanks now I know what to look for. I just need to know where to hook up the signal wire.
Travis.......If I don't get back to you about this in the next week or so, remind with with bump to this thread or pm me. I have another harness to modify so I will be looking at it, just not sure when I will get to it.
Thats cool thanks
There are 3 wires from the early 90's tach:
Black/White = negative ground
Black/Red = switched positive
Black/Orange = signal
Connect the Black/Orange to the Orange/White from the Ignitor. :thumb:
Thanks now I can get rid of my ugly bulky gauges.
